My battery pretty much stopped holding a charge. The phone rep claimed that I damaged it beyond repair by leaving it plugged in on AC adapter too often.

Is there any way to recover it? Just recently it was holding a charge pretty well and only suddenly started reporting problems to windows (the little red X).

I've tried various forms of discharging completely (just letting it sit in the BIOS) and recharging.

not really, once a battery starts to go it's gone. Steve Gibson of security now did a show about notebook battery's and can explain it better then I can. it's worth your time to listen. show 311 found here forward into about 22 mins into it they start talking about macbook pro Battery hack that was going on and Steve talks about how Battery's have little bios type chips inside them that control the each row of cells and watch over them. each row has it's own controller and once a Cells starts to die, those chips detect a bad cell and they close is off for good. over time more and more cells start to get shut down. until the battery can no longer make the power that is needed for your system to run off of it. They can't be re-calmed or recharged once they die.

anyway listen to that show and it explains it better then I am trying to here.

I really enjoyed that program and so I made a mental note about it and your question sparked it.

Mine is always plugged in with battery in. Should I remove it? Who else takes the battery out?

I have also always wondered this.

On G53Sw however, if the battery is 95% or above, it actually does NOT charge. I believe this is the case on most newer laptops (or OS) to prolong battery life.

I always take the battery of my G73 off of it if I'm just using it on a desk for a very long period of time. I rarely attach its battery (like twice or thrice a month) or only when it's really needed (btw I'm on UPS so power outage is not an issue).

Heat is the number one killer of notebook batteries. If the battery is always attached to the notebook, chances are the heat from the notebook spreads up to the battery (especially if your gaming for long periods of time with the battery and AC adapter connected).

I got my G73JH on June 2010 and up to this point, HWiNFO64 reports around 5 to 6 percent wear level. What I did was I rarely attach the battery just as I said when needed, I store it in a cool place (inside my drawer) and I always make sure that it has around 40 to 45% stored charge. The most important stuff to remember is that always keep your battery away from heat as much as possible. I learned those stuff in batteryuniversity website.

Oddly, my battery now drains smoothly again and I get battery life about what I expect. I reinstalled windows without Power4gear. I am of the opinion that phone reps are stupid and company software generally sucks.
