I was wondering if it is bad to have the battery pack installed in the laptop all the time if I primarily only use A/C power? Will this diminish the life of the battery?

Should I only have the battery plugged into the laptop when I am portable? (which is almost never).

I have colleagues that say it won't hurt the battery, and others that say to take it out and leave it in my laptop bag.

    Thanks for any feedback. :)

I would suggest leaving it out but keeping it in won't do any major harm. It'll probably wear a little fast but not a big deal, still if you're on your A/C power all the time it's best you remove it.

If you choose to take the battery out, drain it to 40% first, then place it in a zip-lock bag, and place the bag in the refrigerator.

And so you dont think im crazy

If you use it with 1) AC plugged in and battery or 2)AC plugged in and no battery.. how does that make you use your AC a lot more? Or am I misreading you?

my dell laptop battery died few months ago so i ordered one. the dell person who spoke to me on the phone said that it is not recommended to continue using the ac power after the battery is fully charged. (i had my ac power plugged in all the time.)
so only when the battery is fully drained i would use the ac power to recharge it and when it is fully recharged i would remove the ac power.

With Dell they may not be using better batteries then. I know on Alienware they used to have a button that forced battery to stop charging. G73 and other laptops now use batteries that are "smart."

It does not matter at all if you keep your battery in. Once it's charged, the laptop stops charging the battery!

Agreed. The G73JH has protection against overcharging, and I can verify this by my inverter's LED display of power draw. WHen the battery is fully charged, my draw drops significantly.
