Not getting good FPS. The only way I can lock in 60 frames is take off full screen mode and make the window pretty small. Anyone have better performance?

Is this a driver issue? I'm using the latest nvidia beta drivers.

Or will the game always run kinda meh?

your using a gimped 128 bit 560m. The GB/s of the card should be 40GB/s while a regular 192bit 560m is 60 GB/s. There is a big difference between the two. I would suggest getting rid of that laptop while you can if you want maximum future proofing.

Thanks for quick replies. I have my asus hooked up to my 28" monitor, running the game at 1920/1080 resolution. I'm averaging 30-40FPS on complete low settings at full screen. Game runs flawless in windowed mode if I make the game window small.

The game auto suggests high settings. Thats what doesn't seem to add up. Plus the laptop meets n beats recomended settings.

    Any suggestions?

Stick to high settings, turn off AA and post AA, turn off blur and Ambient Occlusion.

40GB/s bandwidth will not be enough to run this game at 1080p especially as the game requires a high bandwidth due to the constant changing textures as you move around.

Stick with 900p you would need at least a 560M 192bit or 5870M for anything higher and still you wont be able to turn everything on full.

try adding some custom resolution and try your way to a good balance. Add them in you NVIDIA controlpanel.

Heres a few custom resolutions i just calculated for my g74.

    1600x900
    1504x846
    1472x828
    1440x810
    1408x792

Im currently running BC2 on 1472x828 all settings high, except shadows=low, MSAA=4x. Anisotropic 8x

Getting steady 60fps in vsync. Still waiting for the BF3 Beta tho!

Going to bump this thread. I too, have this laptop but, I am not able to play. WHenever I start it up, it tells me my drivers are out of date (268.37) and that I need the updated 295 onwards to play. I cannot figure out how to update my drivers. I have gone to the asus webpage to download the most up to date, but they are 268.

Echriado. Go to nvidia.com and hover over "download drivers" click on beta + old drivers. Put in the 500m series, product 560M and download the latest beta driver.

If you have Trend Micro installed, you will need to disable the internet protection, otherwise you won't be able to load up battlelog.com.

Then let me know how it runs for you :)

Forgot to mention that. I already checked, and, the most up to date for my line of GPU is 280.26 and still gives me the error of 285 needed.

Update: Actually just worked, still gives me an error every time I hit play, though. Just having a lot of issues actually playing, freezes and crashes.

I got the game to run near full screen around 60 FPS, even out doors. But I had to sacrifice alot of game settings to do it.

I used the earlier advice and setup custom resolutions. 1440/810 works best. I also set the all game settings to LOW. Mind you I'm also playing this game on a 28" monitor. But this setup has given me the best over all framerate. I havn't tinkered to much with the settings, but at least I can play full screen at 60FPS ;p

Never download drivers from ASUS , just go to Nvidia website , choose Series 5 Mobile , windows 7 64 bits and you're ready to go :)

Yeah, the ability to run Nvidia's normal drivers with no hacks or tricks or whatever is one of the reasons I bought my G74 over other brands. Apparently those Sager models can't use normal drivers, Dell's using Optimus, etc.

My G74 took the drivers pain free, just like my Asus n80 does.

Sounds like Battlefield 3's pretty high end and will probably run better with the next driver release.

Out of curiosity, is it a real full game, or just multiplayer like the first two? I'm not a big fan of Bad Company, but at least it is an actual single player game, so maybe Battlefield 3 is like that also?

That's a great tip! I didn't know you could add custom resolutions, and that could come in very handy down the line.

Heh...for the heck of it I installed Duke Nukem Forever on my c50 based notebook, which ran it at 720p at like 10ish frames per second :-D Although it did run it and look good, so that's saying something.

I don't think some get what the OP wants. He seems to be the type who believes it's not running well if he can't vsync 60FPS...

Your 100% right lol. I'm a competitive gamer and plan on playing bf3 with my clan. I'm willing to sacrifice performance to squeeze out any extra frames that I can. If I can't play over 45 fps. Then to me the games not running well.

I don't know, but if this game is as high end as was initially talked about, 45FPS at a high resolution may be SUPER good. I know initially they talked about it not being possible on the consoles and the like, I don't know.

As already mentioned the Best Buy GPU is gimped to 192 bits. Better to purchase online and look for the full 3 gig ddr5 and 1920x1080p resolution. As for drivers, some will have a problem updating directly from Nvidia or ATI. My G73 with a 5870 GPU had to have the vbios flashed before it could ever use latest video drivers without gsod. Maybe they've done better on the G74.

You probably mis-wrote it, but the Best Buy version has a 128-bit memory interface, the full one is 192-bit. The Best Buy one's still good for the price though!

Oh that's a big "No" man. Don't ever get graphic drivers from ASUS. You can go to this link to download the driver 285.38. If you can't get it installed, tell me your Hardware ID and I can mod the driver 285.38 for you, that's the driver that gives improvements over BF3.

In order to obtain the Hardware ID of your GTX560M, you need to right click on "My Computer" and select "Properties" > Select "Device Manager" in the popped up window > Find "Display adapters" in the list and click on its little triangle then right click on "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M" and select "Properties" > Once a new window pops up go to the tab "Details" and in the drop down menu select "Hardware Ids" and then copy either the 1st or 2nd line in the value field then post it here.

You should definitely be getting better frames on a G74! I've got the bestbuy G73jh and I can run the game great on all high 900p.

    30-45 fps on Caspian Border.

Get yourself a Clevo or something, or play it on 1366x768.
