I'm looking to get my G73JH laptop repasted under warranty at an authorized service provider (don't want to RMA it for something so trivial, god knows what they'll do to it :p). New York, NY is the most accessible place for me, and I consulted the Asus website to find the authorized service providers there. I'd do it myself but I lack any kind of aptitude for hardware whatsoever and would rather it be done without invalidating the warranty in any case.

If any of you have used any of these establishments and can vouch for them as a place where my laptop would be in good hands, I'd greatly appreciate it. :)

If there's a way for me to use another place to do the repasting yet have it still be under warranty, I'm open to other suggestions as well.

Here's the list of stores off of the website:

    MainPC
    340 Kings Highway
    Brooklyn, NY 11223

    BH Photo Video
    Service Center 2nd Floor
    420 9th ave (Bet 34th street & 33 th street)
    New York, NY

    DATAVISION COMPUTER VIDEO INC.
    445 FIFTH AVENUE
    NEW YORK, NY

    J&R Music and Computer World
    1 Park Row
    New York, NY 10038

    Thanks!

Repasting the GPU won't void the warranty unless you want to repaste the CPU. I would do it myself.

Unfortunately, as I've stated, doing it myself is not an option; I have zero hardware experience and don't want to risk doing any permanent damage to a $1500 laptop.

And I thought cracking open the case voids the warranty? Isn't that required for a GPU repaste?

I'm originally from NYC (Bronx) and, though I've never heard of MainPC, I've shopped at both J&R and Datavision over the years and both are excellent resellers. Heck, I still order stuff from J&R semi-regularly and get it shipped to VA, esp since I don't pay taxes on it now. And B&H is as huge as J&R and has been recommended to me even by local friends here. One of my NY friends took his M50Vm to Datavision to be fixed and had a problem-free experience. He went there because, last we looked, Datavision was the only one of those that was an authorized service place, while the other stores were just authorized resellers. In fact, even just outside of DC, Datavision is the closest one to me.

I'm a trains' ride away myself, which is why I decided to take it into the city; I really didn't want to mail it off to Asus and have them do god knows what to it. :p

I figure this way it gets done much more quickly and (hopefully) without all the hassle.

Thank you for the recommendations, Ninjak! I really appreciate it! :)

Sounds like she was volunteering to do the repaste for you. :)

    Cheers,

Ah, well, in that case, I really do appreciate the offer, but I want it to be done at an authorized store just to make sure there's no warranty issues further down the line. :)

Not that I have anything but complete faith in your ability to do a repaste, though; it was your thread that helped me decide I needed one in the first place. I owe you a big one for that; I'm dying to play Stalker but my computer dies every time. :p
