I plan on getting the G73JH, and I was wondering what would be the best cooler for it.
Any help is appreciated!

I don't think a cooler would make any difference since air is sucked from the keyboard.
-
*sigh* There has been a whole discussion about where air is sucked in, with the accepted conclusion that the G73 sucks in air from multiple places. Users have reported sufficient airflow thru the bottom of the unit, and users who have experimented with coolers (which force cool air into the bottom of the unit) have reported substantial decreases in temperature. So, it can make a difference. As for the OP, try searching the threads, several coolers have been mentioned.

im using the thermaltek cln0009 theres about a 5-8 degree temperature differnce. i posted the actual temperature differences in the mqin g73 thread part 3. look there for more info. i'd link it, but im on my cell phone.

I wrote the one comment on the link, above, so I'll abbreviate here by saying that this has the best airflow from its two fans of any cooling pad out there, including Zalmans and other costing twice as much. The structure of this is perfect for laptops which "suck up" from the bottom, as this cooler generates a virtual wind storm just below the bottom of the laptop. It also happens to have a 4-port replicator and runs on AC or USB power - I recommend the former for fan speed, unless no outlet is convenient. Best of all, it's available everywhere for $30-$40. I'd recommend buying it locally so that just in case it doesn't do the trick for your machine, you don't have to hassle with return shipping. It is very cheap/plasticy looking, but that does keep it very light for travel. I would rather one of the industrial grade metal ones, but they just don't send enough air where it is needed, plus they add a lot of weight. For a laptop with that much gaming power, do not consider a single fan or even most dual fan options. Try this one first, and see if your cpu/gpu temps don't fall by 10*C. Good luck.

Looks decent: check
Isn't covered in LED's and weird junk: check
Quiet: apparently so!
Is it really the best option out there though? I'm reading mixed reviews (mostly people wish it was made of metal) and am a little wary of targus chillpads, the old one I have now is loud as a gd train.
Also, what the heck is this?

I know the Thermaltake has been recommended.
Has LED light, but you can't see if when used since the laptop is on top, LED light thing is a no issue.
And it runs quiet, so the G73 users have said. -
I got the Thermaltake as well.
Makes about a 5 degrees difference.
It is just as quiet as the G73. Silent.
Ya - I was watching the lights - cool - but you can't see them at all when the notebook is on top - so I just turn them off - no sense in risking a burnt out bulb for no reason.

I currently have a Dell Inspiron 6400 (E1505) that's I'm hoping to change for an Asus G73JH in the somewhat-near future. I still game a little with the Dell (older games of course) but it's running hot under load. I'm searching for a notebook cooler for an Asus G73JH but that could be used temporarely with my old Dell since I'm hoping to change laptop in maybe 1 or 2 months.
I see a lot of talks about the Thermaltake but I'm not sure what the difference is between the thermaltake cln0009 and cln0008.
Which Thermaltake is best for the G73JH and do you think I could use it with my old dell? -
The difference is one is aluminum (thumbs up) and has different colored lighting choices (who cares).
I bought the aluminum one for longevity...also read a report that the fan is quieter in the aluminum one. -
I think it has been proven that the G73JH pulls (sucks in) air from around the two speakers and through the keyboard itself.....There are literally only a few small vents on the bottom of this rig so I am not sure why anyone would think a cooler was significantly helping temps? I mean ya it would cool the bottom of the laptop, and thus cool hardware and components through transference of the plastic, but thats about it! Who has PROOF that the G73JH gets even an ounce of cooling/air through the bottom? Its just not possible?
-
I guess the only evidence is the temps - runs about 5 degrees cooler with the cooler....lol.
-
Yes...any type of ambient flowing air even near the laptop or intake would give you a 5 degree difference....People do not understand that your room temperature i.e the temp of the air your laptop is sucking in is what dictates how efficient and cool the hardware components will run...I live in arizona...in the summer with my windows open my CPU and GPU run 15-20 degrees hotter than if I turn the AC on....and close the windows of course (my gf always yells at me for that...rightfully)

Do cooling mats work? Those that have Sodium Sulfate Decahydrate in them?
-
Well, got my Thermaltake cln0008 and I gotta say it's a nice little toy. Nice built quality and very silent. I can't say for a G73JH but my old dell seems releived. The fan stays quieter when I game.
Funny how most negative comments on newegg mention that it's hard and sometimes even painful to use on your lap... It never would have crossed my mind to try it, this thing is quite a beast and the 2 aluminium stand kind of scream "table use only".
Best Laptop Cooler for G73JH?
