ok so I got really got bored last night at work and compared the two.

I tired to match the two in the same specs. The laptop has 6gb of memory vs the desktop's 4 but the desktop's cpu is running at 2.66 vs 1.66 of the laptop's.

The laptop came out to $1,312.18 with shipping and taxes. The desktop came out to 1,064.59 with shipping and no taxes. That came with everything including even a mouse and monitor. Some of the desktop parts are not top quality things, like the PSU on the desktop. The PSU came with the mid tower case its rated at 400w. I went for cheap parts on the desktop side to keep the cost as low as possible. The desktop is cheaper by more then $300 but you need to build it and plus you also have warranty issues. The laptop already comes built with warranty and all.

I will say this AGAIN!!, I got really bored at work. Put it's a good match between the two, it's the best I can do. I used Newegg's website for the desktop and the Bestbuy's web site for the laptop. I will still say this laptop is one hell of a deal, I think I would go for the laptop over the desktop on this round. More portable and uses less power vs the desktop.

in terms of cost/performance a desktop will annihilate any laptop.

    ASUS G73JH-X3

Much better than the BB one.

This desktop is a top of the line system.
    Order to back things off
    1)SSD
    2)Monitor

(Actually the SSD is a huge performance impact, if you have an arbitrary money limit, tell us)
    and i5 750 isn't that bad.

As far as case and optical drives, those are cheap and you can probably find an optical drive from a retired machine anyway.

Also all the individual parts have warranties so that's fine

If you don't have a place to game, go for the desktop as it will be more upgradable. If gaming at work, definitely the laptop. I mean are you really going to lug the desktop, monitor, speakers and ups... really?

For home gaming though, that build is so wrong. Forget "Same Specs" and think "Best Gaming Experience" because the G73 is in contention for that. You'd be cheating yourself if you build a laptop powered desktop.

And at 5.3" in width, I'm not certain that you will fit the GPU.

Try this: Under $1100, Choose an aftermarket HSF if you want to OC to any great extent.
