Check out the thread on Creative X-Fi in these forums. It's working great for me.

My sound was working ok, with the little sub and the left and right working.
I wanted to try this method to get better sound
http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...ative-x-fi-mb-your-g73-realtek-hd-2-48-a.html
Well I could not get that to work and now, I cant get my sound back, I can only get the little sub to work on my G73.. any help please
OK so I got the Speakers woking but the sub and the speakers are not togethter if I mute it, it only mutes the speakers and not the sub?
Any help on this would be great, I cant seem to get the sound right....
At this point I'm just gonna have asus do a clean instal lol I cant get my audio back to normal... its all screwed up, for some odd reason I just could not install the 248 mod driver so nothing worked out..
I have to RMA my notebook for some screen problems, I told them not to clean install but now that this happened I'll have them do it...
I still dont know how to get a re-install driver CD, and since I'm not sure how to manually install them I think that would be a bad idea! so I'm stuck... -
I wish my speakers were even decent. My right speaker makes this annoying buzzing sound on bass and stuff. So I have to balance the sound all over to the left speaker to get rid of it.

Just an update, the Realtek drivers, 2.59 have been released.

asusrog.com/FORUMS
If you look in the G73 section , there is a sticky created by Chastity titled driver reference (or something similar)
From there U can get individual drivers, win 7 iso , etc.
Note this site has been up and down a lot recently. -
So will the new driver fix this? It seems as though the computer sees the bass and left and right speakers as two different things. I cam have one or the other but not both

Uninstall. Reboot. Driver Sweep 2.90 (Realtek Audio). Install 2.59. reboot.
-
I found that 2.54 runs the best for me with the X-FI drivers from Chastity's driver page. For some reason the others I have tried have just caused my JH to get the random lock up problem but I have not had it once with 2.54.
The only thing I noticed with 2.54 is that the EAX reverb option is greyed out in the Creative suite even though I never use it. The subwoofer even if it is basic does make a big difference on the sound output. -
Well I installed 2.59. Seems to have trouble detecting my headphones when i plugged it in the jack after resuming from sleep/hibernate.
Only a restart solves it.
Looks like its back to problem-free 2.58. -

I've detailed this before in previous posts but I'll reiterate it here.
Lockups and freezes only happen after a hard crash. This is with any version of Realtek with Creative X-Fi installed. By hard crash I refer to any event where I'm required to power down via power button. BSODs and the like.
If I start up the laptop right after the crash event, I will hang at the desktop within 2 minutes of startup. Mouse will freeze and the keyboard doesn't respond.
However, if I start up the laptop and immediately point it to shutdown, then restart it, all is dandy with the world.Strange but true.
I have a suspicion it has something to do with some Creative audio service or process that, if not shut down properly, malfunctions and locks-up.
That's my experience anyway. Excuse me while I lawl. -
I find creative works fine for me with 2.48 and 2.54 any others I have tried I get issues with so ill stay put if its not broke dont fix it motto. -
Otherwise flawless. Impeccable. As unsullied as it comes. -
2.58 has been solid here, for me.
-
And as of a re-install of 2.59, it too has been flawless.
-
OK I got it working!!! yay thanks to chastity, and the rest of the asus gang! lol

Does the subwoofer not work when the creative drivers aren't installed?
-
It works. Just that some people want to boost the bass. With the MB app, you can use Bass Boost. With the Realtek driver only you can use the Graphical EQ to boost the bass levels.
-
I never experienced any BSODs related to Realtek Drivers. I wonder if its cause I barely use my G73 at home.
Best way to improve asus G73 sound?
