after installing latest synaptics there is a message appearing at every 5 minutes and i can't turn it off
INTERACTIVE SERVICE DETECTION
SYNTPENH.EXE
anyone seeing this? -
not yet been using new drivers with no problem but i have never had touchpad problems
EDIT just had it happen -
incompability window? -
-
-
The Scrybe software locks up my computer on boot, and the program crashes soon as it launches.
Uninstalled and its fine, no jumpy behavior, and all other Synaptic functions work flawlessly. (Always had though)
Just be wary of Scrybe.

I just went from Beta 4 to beta 3 because the touchpad was unusable. The machine booted fine, but the synaptics driver was still screwy (original one that came on the disk). I removed it. The computer wouldn't post anymore. It was stuck on the Asus logo. I think this was due to the bios flash not the driver removal. I pulled the battery and power. I held in the reset button for thirty seconds and powered it back up. Everything booted up just fine. I loaded 15.1.9 Synaptics driver and the touchpad is working <s>perfectly</s> "pretty OK" again. I have no idea if it will stay that way. I will edit this post if it messes up again.
I am editing to clarify for the sake of posterity... The computer being unable to post after the flash had nothing to do with the flash. Apparently the G73 won't post if there is a Verizon USB air card plugged in when you boot up... at least it won't post with beta 3 if the air card is plugged in. Card works fine you just can't boot with it plugged in. -
i can see improvement in this driver with edge scroling
it is more sensitive from version 14
ofcourse if you don't like scrybe you can disable it
i just don't want the icon in the system bar but i can't hide it -
-
still getting that window? -
-
yeah try reinstalling them
also when it showed on mine i clicked to show me what was the message and there was indeead a message something saying to show a window a startup ...i uncheked that and after restart was fine
also it can be fixed from the services probably there is a option so that service won't comunicate with the desktop... -
You might check this and see .
And here we go again! My fan on the Video card is going out , it is making a bad sound , I went through this and other things from the day I got this G73.
And to RMA this unit I have to pay again to ship it. Well I have paid enough already shipping it around to be fixed. And I do not have the money to do this.
I wonder if Gary is around and can get this fixed as I am going to lose the use of the computer again. I already went 10 weeks with out it from the first, and now I have to come up with more money? Anyone know how to get hold of anyone who can help? Let me know if you do. Thanks -

don't click on the first link... use the second one
and btw with 64bit version showed me that incompatibility window
now is fine
for me the new driver is a succes (old ones were too but this one is better) -
The last BIOS expired on YouSendIt. The file no longer exists
I just got my ASUS from warranty they changed motherboard again. Few hours later the touchpad is not working (was working when I was there).
Anything new on this? -
-
I got it from there. Flashed it via WinFlash. After a while the touchpad started getting unusable again, same as previous motherboard.
I tried flashing it via EasyFlash (BIOS Menu) as people don't recommend WinFlash anyway. It seemed successful but after Shutdown, my laptop is not powering.
Not sure what to do, ASUS Sydney center is too far from my work and this is getting too much. Will have to excuse from work and send it again to ASUS, with a hope they don't just do another motherboard replace only for the third time! -
-
As I mentioned, flashing from WinFlash worked normally (didn't get disabled button or unrecognized file or so), but soon after the touchpad went freezing way more often. Trying to flash the same file from EasyFlash/Bios-menu made the laptop fail. No power. Trying the tiny hidden button in the base and removing battery and all this is no use. -
The only email I have for Gary is the one to send in the test data files for the touch pad. Is that the one everyone is using?
Thanks -
-
I REALLY dont want to curse myself, but i think the new drivers have improved my touchpad a bit.. haven't had a freak out yet, but i am still not using it as much as originally.
-
So... do we have any more news about the promised final bios that was "coming shortly" a week ago?
Yes, I'm growing a little bit impatient... I've been suffering from the hideous touch-pad issues for 5 months and I _really_ want to get rid of them! -
-
So... if it turns out that ASUS realises that touchpad issue is something that cannot be fixed via software/firmware/bios
...what's gonna happen to us? I don't know about you, but I got my laptop not that long ago (early September) and I don't want a faulty product... -

As far as BIOS being able to regulate voltage, I am aware of this as well, but I'm not sure you can regulate something as specific as voltage output per keystroke. Perhaps tuning down the voltage of the touchpad to compensate? I'm sure Gary and his team know better than I do. But after almost a year of waiting, you can imagine why people would start to lose hope. On the other hand, you have to appreciate the effort Gary has put into this. I don't think any other company would really care about an issue that affects a small number of people. -
I was having trouble with missing keystrokes and double capitalization. I never use the touchpad on laptops as they tend to be difficult for me to control (I favor the gaming mouse that came with the laptop or a Wacom pen tablet.)
I am using the 211 BIOS and followed some suggestions in the posts to disable the "internal pointing device" (touchpad) in the BIOS. Since doing this the keyboard lag and double capitalization has disappeared! The keypad appears to be much more sensitive.
I am happy that this worked as now, knock on wood, I have a fantastic working laptop. I am not sure how or if this will affect stability of the laptop in any way as I only attempted this yesterday. However, for those requiring the proper use of the touchpad and having difficulties, and those working on this issue - the touchpad definitely seems to be the culprit. -
Is it really a bios issue? Only time will tell I guess
-
I just went over to the alienware forums to look around (Never been there much), and i just found out that the m17x was having touchpad issues too, and they fixed those with bios update. Sweet. Hopefully Gary will bring the new official bios fixing all of our touch-pads. I hope it doesn't take him a long time.
I Installed new synaptics drivers and it "kinda" behaves better. Went down from an untamable Lion to a wolf. -
-
I tried the latest synaptics 15.2.7 drivers and lo and behold the touch pad is still not sensitive enough at times, but otherwise has worked for the last 3 days with no spaz outs / lock ups. Usually it freaks out (for 20 seconds to a few minutes) once a day or more. Fingers crossed...
FWIW I am using the latest vbios/beta bios/and upates per the thread, have all fancy touch pad features off with max senstivity set, and have the drive under the touchpad currently removed.
Edit: Should have knocked on wood. ;/ It just spazed out, but it is much less frequent and seems more responsive, so at least a few steps in the right direction... -
creative software is fine for me i don't need any license .... -

No more news about the last bios release? 2 weeks have past from Gary's last post.
-
No News yet that I have seen , I wonder what is up with the new Bios and if it is going to be much longer ?

Official ASUS BIOS and Program Updates - [H]ard|Forum
The G73 issues are likely pulling up the rear. -
Somehow the Syantics driver are buggy, after restart the profile i set with my settings aren't taking on, and i need to choose it manually, and there is the message which sometimes popup with the Synlk file or something, and my keyboard is laggy and i have missing strokes even with the bios fix newest of them, i'll try to get 15.2.4.4 driver and see if it's good
EdIT : i uninstalled the other thing that came with the file and it now works ok, something synatics gestures in the control panel add/remove apps, you'll see it right next to the synatics drivers. -
How do i know which version i updated, i don't remember if it was 03 or last one 04,
is there anyway i can check ? -
If it helps i have the fourth revision of the beta bios and the date as shown in everest is 10/30/09.
-
Okay, something to try for touchpad issues.
Using latest drivers with power 4 gear hybrid removed. When I first updated drivers to the synaptics 15.2.7 it worked decent for a few days, then day three fritzed out. I thought about it and realized I had installed power 4 gear hybrid that day and wondered if that was the culprate.
I removed it two days ago (approx) and track pad is working close to where it should be. I have had the vertical scroll become non-responsive once for a minute or two. And once in a while it seems less sensitive than it should for a while, but beyond that, no crazy mouse behavors.
Anyone want to try that too? -
Havn't had p4g installed for ... ever, and I havn't had it fritz out ever. Just unresponsive occasionally, and horiz/vert scroll when I'm just trying to mouse around.
-
-
Did a whole photoshop session with the touchpad/one bar button with no issues. Latest Synaptics drivers w/o Scrybe. -
I will try removing Power 4 Gear after I get my next failure.
I have gone about 12 hours without a failure though so I do not want to change anything right now.
The changes I made recently are:
Installed bluetooth driver 6.2.5.600
Installed Asus keyboard filter driver
In that order.
Time will tell...
I am using the Synaptics 15.1.9 and the prod 211 bios.
Edit: OK it just failed, I could not click anything and it would not move properly. I am going to remove Power Gear now. It did recover right after I made this edit though. Now I am undecided about removing the Power...
I have removed Power 4 Gear Hybrid and it has not helped. It seems to me and I am sure I have mentioned this before... the touchpad works fairly well as long as typing is kept to a minimum. General web page viewing and even a photoshop project can be done without a touchpad incident, at least not a severe enough one to have to switch back to a mouse, or in my case a trackball. Once I start using the keyboard though it fails enough that I have to stop using it. -
