I spent a good 15 minutes trying to get the error to reproduce itself PRIOR to flashing, and couldn't get it to happen. Though I know it does happen, I couldn't figure out a reliable way of reproducing it on my machine ... so I upgraded the bios anyways. Still no problems... but I couldn't get it to work earlier either.
I'm doing a fresh install NOW. And I swore I wouldn't be a guinea pig for another problem fix ... and here I am. Mostly because asus DID treat me right for a long time, and eventually with my g73.
-
OK, so I just clicked the bottom left hand side of the synaptic security message disabling the "notification" and it appears to have solved my pop-up issue at startup.
Gary, after uninstalling and reinstalling all of the various drivers my keyboard does appear to be working more consistently. I just typed a lengthy email without a single dropped keystroke.
Bravo! -
I just removed and reinstalled the ATI 10.12 drivers and I am happy to say I think mine is fixed. It has been an hour and the touchpad has not glitched at all. I removed all of the ATI stuff and rebooted. I could feel an improvement in the touchpad right away while I used the machine with no drivers installed. I installed the 10.12s and rebooted and it is still fine... Yay!
So to summarize... you have to install he system bios and then the vbios and then the 10.12 drivers. I reinstalled the others as well but for me it definitely was the re-install of the 10.12s that fixed it. -
I had done the keyboard and touchpad drivers earlier and they made no difference. It was the post install of the 10.12s that fixed it.
One more thing... I really like the Chiral scrolling and the momentum setting in the touchpad settings. Momentum makes it so easy to zip around the screen. -
Mine actually worked fine for about 4 hours after i flashed the Bios and installed the listed drivers, but after that i started loosing keys while chatting in DDO more and more... Now im back to the drivers i had before and touchpad disabled in Bios. I already bought a smaller travel mouse (well at least smaller than the MX Performance on my desk - the M705/Marathon Mouse) anyway so i dont care much anymore.
-
I used it to play some games and it worked just fine. And I have never been able to use a Touch Pad for gaming before.
Now I am better with a mouse in the games but I can use the Touch Pad to play when I am out and not have to take the mouse.
It looks like we are making forward progress on these issues and I am sure they will make some tweaks as they get more data from all the users. I am waiting to see what fix comes out next! -
Hi guys! im having a big problem here, after update the bios my laptop neverturn on again...... holly what can i do? how can i reflash if i have no bios? dammit plz help, for me is imposible to rma my machine
-
If you flashed the BIOS, and it bricked, you need to RMA or buy a new motherboard.
-
Sorry to hear that mate, but youll have to RMA, nothing you can do yourself after a failed Bios flash.
-
how about first trying to replace the BIOS memory chip
:: BIOSMAN :: BIOS Updates : BIOS chips : BIOS recovery : AWARD : PHOENIX : AMI : BIOS replacement : Thumb Drives : Minoru 3D Webcam
and I am pretty sure ASUS could do that, I know that some motherboard even have special recovery options some can do it via usb, some need to connect to certain pins on the motherboard (JTAG or SPI),actually the AMI bios even has built in recovery options, but it's at the discretion of the bios manufacturer (they only license the code) to include it or not , and I guess Asus decided against it.
what bothers me is that the bios exist for a long time, and the bricking is a pretty serious issue, why couldn't Asus include a recovery option? and not flash the recovery part with each bios flash (since it rarely changes) -
dammit then im done
ill start to search a mainboard or a new laptop :S
-
The beta BIOS worked for me, but it killed my keyboard lights. I did the keyboard flash update here:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus-gaming-notebook-forum/513264-keyboard-light-fix-gary-key.html
and that fixed my lights. Just an fyi...
So now everythings works, keyboard and touchpad, no lag or missing characters! Thanks Gary -
Also do you have any friends in the U.S that you could ship the computer to and they could send it in?
Just a thought.
Although you might end up with a better system by getting a new Motherboard , other than the cost this could work out in your favor in the long run. -
-
I ran that fixmykb bat file...
-
After a few days I can safely say the touchpad is pretty much fixed. Sans the random scrolling not working every now and then but it's happened like twice since I posted originally about it so if that got a small tweak then perfection but I'm content. It hasn't gone nuts at all which amazes me so yay for the G73 finally not having any problems, least on my end. For the record I flashed the BIOS and THEN installed the new drivers so yeah, just supporting that other theory. Keyboard is as solid as ever, I've never had the keyboard issue and this didn't really change it.
-
Another bricked bios here. I used the bios from Gary's original post and the bios updater in built in (no Win-bios). I have a feeling the bios update was corrupted, but it installed anyways. Should this have happened?
At least I'm in a country with a repair center. -
I just installed the bios update. I don't know if there is any difference in the keyboard yet. Will test it out and try the drivers that Gary recommends. One thing I have to say is that WinFlash is making me Paranoid. It stopped at 99% writing until I hit a button on the keyboard.
-
-
No, no error during update, and I didn't have to force it. Just guessing (or hoping) that was the problem. The number for the repair center in Seoul from the Asus site is wrong, but the address is correct. My diligent coworker tracked that down for me. They gave some bizarre procedure to try to reset the bios before sending it to them. Needless to say, it didn't work.
so it's RMA time. Yay. -
So, yeah, I had that one in thousands bad flash. After the hundreds of bios and vbios flashes I've done over the years, I guess I was due. Or something. And I was an idiot and didn't check the hash, if it was even posted.
Wow, trying to post to these forums from my android tablet is a PITA. -
Well in that case, it's just probably among the many where Bios just fails. There is always a chance of Bios update failing, no matter how perfect you set everything up.
-
This does not work most of the time but it is worth a try.
I have done this and it has worked ,but you can not depend on it working. -
Gary - not sure you'll see this - but will there be an official release of this BIOS? Will you use the user generated reports to try and come out with a better optimized one?
-
It has been a couple of days now and my machine is still great. The touchpad is amazing now that the software is fixed, it is by far the best I have ever used. In fact, since the fix my machine even feels zippier.
-
Works great for me. Used winflash and installed it, all of my keylag that I had is gone.
-
Yeah, I will have to add to this that my Touch Pad is working great! And this Touch Pad and how it works is great, I have not seen one that works as this one does.
The only issue I have is the buttons on the Touch Pad, they are almost to stiff and hard to use. You get used to that but they should be much easier to push. -
This is looking really good. I have been the primary whiner about this since day one. My RMA has changed from "waiting for parts" to "repairing". Now I don't have to be anxious about whether the keyboard still lags since there is a software fix.

After possible Bios fix + software a few days ago, my trackpad has become jumpy here and there and unresponsive randomly

It was so embarrising
While using another brand of computer you really get a feel for how bad the G73JH's trackpad/button really is.
I'm really beginning to think it is hardware. I can't really explain it but I can feel it begin to mess up before it goes on a full flede rebellion. I started the RMA process but I've neglected to send it in to Asus because I've been burned by them in the past & because I want to see if Gary & Co can produce a solution.
It sure has been one hellava ride trying to get the software & hardware to play nice in the G73JH. This trackpad is the final obstacle.
I really think this is my last Asus -
Given the posts I've read so far I will pass on this bios and hope they come out with a non-beta and lauch from the asus website. I am a bit troubled that the fixes that are posted here are not posted on asus drivers page.
-
Now that mine is working correctly, it is by far the best touchpad I have ever used. -
And yeah, the fixes posted here (vbios and kb fix) are available officially from asus as well... but you'll have to RMA it so they can do it themselves.
The reason it's not supported here, is because the fixes have a failure rate that is quite high IF *AND ONLY IF* they're done incorrectly. So rather than pay the price of people "learning" on their $1700 laptops, they'll give you the fix if you RMA it, or let you do it at your own risk at home. -
You might run the diag for the Touch Pad and send it in to Gary, the more data that we can send will make it easier for them to get this issue worked out and fixed.
After I have a few things happen I run the Diag , that way I will have files of the problem to send in. -

Everything worked great for a few days....
I left my G73 on last night downloading anime and as soon as I came to this site and read your comment and clicked on reply to thread to post this message all hell broke loose....... -
I just removed FancyStart & Smart Logon on mine and it locked on the Shut Down screen when I tried to reboot. It took three restarts to finally get it going again. Clearly there are still issues...
-
Can someone please confirm if their Fn + F2 wifi enable/disable toggle still works under this Beta BIOS? I seem to have lost it since updating the BIOS and the drivers as per Gary's initial post...
All I get is the graphic for Wifi OFF & Bluetooth on and it does not appear to impact the system in any way.
UPDATE: Looks like I lose my Fn + F2 toggle because I was running a BETA Atheros driver. Once I rolled back to the ASUS one everything is back to normal. -
Mine still works fine.
-
Mine Also Worked For At Most A Day But Became Jumpy Again.....pls Dont Forget To Send The Synaptic Dignostic File To Gary...

Mine was never missing any keystrokes. I'm on the official 211 bios, and had all the exact software/drivers listed in the beginning of this thread except I was using ATK - Version V1.0.0005 instead of ATK - Version V1.0.0007. I updated to V1.0.0007 and all hell broke lose. Missing keystrokes, and even my Logitech G7 Mouse started missing clicks in games, which sucks in Black Ops when line up a headshot, left-click the mouse to pull the trigger, and nothing happens. Then the guy you were trying to kill realizes where you are and kills you with ease because your frickin' mouse won't left-click! There must be a conflict with the ATK driver and Logitech driver. I re-installed ATK - Version V1.0.0005, and everything is back to how it should be. Just a heads up.

Noooooooo my touchpad has failed again, it was doing so well. I checked the log and at the same time as one of the failures and there was an entry that stated: "The Software Protection service entered the running state." I am not sure if this is the cause or the result of what happened, or connected at all for that matter. I actually had a total failure of the touchpad, it did not move at all. All I had open at the time was Google Chrome. I also took a look a the power settings "ATI Graphics Power Settings" it was set to maximize battery life when plugged in. This is not a setting I chose and I am sure it was not set to that before... The plot thickens
I forgot to mention a reboot does fix it. Prior to the bios update a reboot did not fix it. -
I think if we will send in a Diag on this when it happens then it may make it easier for Gary and Crew to find out what is going on.
I still think it has something to do between the Keyboard Firmware and IRQ's in the System Bios.
I do wish we had a way in the Bios to change the IRQ's around like I do in most of my Desktop Bios.
I unloaded the mouse drivers that came with the mouse and then just let Win7 load it's own mouse driver and all went back to working as it should.
I then reloaded the mouse drivers to see if they would work, and they returned to not working, so I am back to the Win7 mouse driver and it is working fine. The only down side is I can not use the special functions that the mouse can do without the Full drivers for the mouse.
I do not know if the Diag for the Touch Pad will show this so I am wondering if I should send in a report to Gary on this so they know that we are having this issue. -
I was just looking in the bios and noticed how little there actually is in there.
It seems so bizarre that the problem can be non existent for days and then reappear and continue to reappear even after a reset. -
Oh gawd... I changed my drivers as Gary listed and updated the bios... they typos, they are all over the place! How do I go back? to the previous bios?? =\
-
-
SO if you're waiting for an official vbios update, give it up. They'll release regular bios updates, because they have winflash and ezflash (in the bios) to do it in a relatively safe manner.
As for the vbios update, it would be nice to have an official version ... but I also understand why they're not releasing it.
