thx, I was trying to find a better solution for that. I disabled the service that brings that up.

It has been about 17 days since I did my wedge fix and the installation of the new ATK package. In this time my touchpad has failed twice, the first time it failed I was unsure if it actually failed, it was late in the evening and when it did it I went to bed. In the morning I found a hair kind of wedged in the tp button, at the time I thought this might have been the cause and it may have been.
The second time was last night, I was closing a web browser window and it glitched. It went into the familiar mode of being unresponsive and did a few quick movements to the right of the screen.
I did a reboot and it returned to its normal excellent operation. This and and the loss of my settings a couple of times are the only problems I've had in two weeks, I am very happy.
Hmmm... I just had another failure right after I posted this message. Maybe my coreplast wedge is compressing...
Cheers -
Any word on the fixes for the G 73 JH ? I have been gone again for a few weeks , and so far it looks like all is the same. Has Gary come out with any news ?
-
Gary have gone M.I.A. for a month and few days now.

Sorry, but my heart fails at thought of trying to find an answer to this question over 106 pages, so:
Would anyone recommend the G73SW for someone who wants a machine that will do right by Skyrim, Dragon Age 2 and such, but who also has to type on it for at least a couple of hours every day?
I really had decided on this laptop, but all the gaming wonderfulness in the world won't make up for a typist-hostile keyboard.
I had also hoped that a built-in webcam would make skyping distant family members easy - and I'm not hearing good results from that either. -
The webcam is subpar but doable for something like webcamming. You just have to install the latest drivers for it or it'll lag your life out. As for the keyboard issue, it seems to reoccur on the G73SW, but should be fixed with the latest BIOS (I'm not sure but someone can correct me for that, it is fixed on the JH where it happens the most). The touchpad issue seems to happen for some and for others its been great. I think it is just too sensitive and where you place your hand when you type causes palmcheck to fail and touchpad becomes glitchy.

I have definitely noticed an improvement with my keyboard since I updated my bios to revision 213. Considering how bad it was before, I cannot simply attribute this to placebo affect. Especially considering I never ONCE had an improved experience with my keyboard, through all the "fixes" except when I finally updated my bios.
-
Just got this laptop used from craigslist. I have a flakey trackpad, no problems with keyboard. the trackpad works fine for awhile and then stops responding (missing taps, sluggish movement, cursor jumps to right side).
I have installed: bios 211. latest vbios, latest atk and synapsis drivers that are recommended on the first page. very frustrating. -
For the G73JH 213 is the latest. I just checked the Asus site and there are now no bios versions on there at all for the JH.
-
should I bother flashing to 213? skimmed this forum and it seemed like it didnt resolve the touchpad issue. Many people reported problem was only temporarily fixed, and that bios 213 recreated other unforeseen problems. don't wanna risk bricking my laptop for nothing.
-
213 + the appropriate synaptic (not latest) + aTI drivers has fixed most of the touchpad problems. There are a few people it didn't help, but for the most part, people reported good results when they did the entire "upgrade".
-
Yeah! This fix actually seems to work. AFAIK it has clearly removed a lot of those issues that I was having with the missing keystrokes on my JH. But it seems as if you need this exact set of drivers to work. Everything is as mentioned here but I am running the ATI 11.2 driver set.
-
Newer Synaptic releases should also work too.
-
can someone please post directions on how to flash to bios 213? I need step by step directions so as not to mess up.
use ezflash or winflash? -
1. Copy the unzipped bios file to the root of a USB flash drive.
2. Reboot the laptop and press the "Escape" key when the Asus logo is on the screen.
3. Choose the option that puts you into the BIOS from the resulting menu.
4. Push the right arrow to go to the second page of BIOS options.
5. Press Enter to choose the top option which is EZFlash
6. navigate to the bios file located on the flash drive and choose it.
The laptop will flash that bios and reboot. I have a half dozen bios files on my flash drive and have done it this way a bunch of times testing various keyboard fixes.
213 most definitely fixes missed keystrokes. The question lies in whether it fixes the touchpad problems some people have. I don't believe 213 CAUSES touchpad issues but it may or may not solve them.
Mine seems to be working well. I am on 213. I have ATK 1.0008 and Synaptics 15.1.9. Everything seems to be working just fine. I never miss a keystroke anymore. I won't say the touchpad is perfect but it works OK. Sometimes it is perfect, but occasionally the cursor will "stick" and refuse to move for a bit. I use a mouse most of the time out of preference. The keystroke thing was completely unacceptable. The touchpad thing I can live with. -
Thank you, I was able to flash the bios successfully and also reinstalled the recommended drivers (atk 1.0008, synaptics 15.1.11.1) for the heck of it.
Unfortunately the touchpad is still a flakey mess. it doesnt register movement and ignores taps quite often. Alot of time when I tap it the cursor jumps to right side of screen. Pretty much the exact same problem More Coffee has.
should I downgrade ATI driver to 10.2? I skipped reinstalling realtek and ati drivers, some how that doesn't seem relevant to the issue. At this point I'm ready to attribute the crappy touchpad to a hardware issue... -
Dismantling the touchpad, then propping it up directly below the touchpad with a piece of stiff foam (or something similar) fixes it. Detailed instructions + a guide with pictures is a few pages back.

The Bios 213 definetely fixes the missed keystrokes, i havent had a single missed keystroke since i flashed to it. But the touchpad was acting out still with it (occasionally refused to move, or went wacky), but since i isolated the bottom of the touchpad board it hasnt acted out anymore, so id say that those touchpad problems are definetely hardware related.

Not too comfortable opening up my baby and inserting cardboard inside. Seems pretty haphazard.
I just wanna throw this question out there...
Has anyone here actually fixed the faulty touchpad permanently via software/driver updates? If so what combination did u use? Kinda ridiculous that we've all pretty much given up and started using usb mice.
Anyone RMA with just touchpad issue and actually resolve it? -
I have the same setup as in MoreCoffee's signature, also all multi finger guestures are off, scrolling is unchecked, touch sens. - heavy touch.
Also thanks to Jody's post earlier in this thread I did this:
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\i8042prt\Parameters and add a DWord value called PollStatusIterations. Set it's value to 1 and reboot.
Thanks again to all, now I can dump my external KB! -
HellCry's like some sort of ethereal entity. Doesn't show up for weeks or months at a time.
Invoke his name, and POOF HE'S THERE BEHIND YOU IN YOUR MIRROR. -
Something you may want to try. -
Instead of performing weird surgery hacks to my g73 I removed the battery for a few minutes just for the heck of it and upon booting up touchpad has been acting a lot better. Could be just a temporary fix but I'll keep you guys posted.
so latest drivers and bios and vbios and all gestures off, plus battery removal seems to have remedied the situation at the moment.
maybe removing the battery for awhile resets something in the laptop, or it clears the static charge buildup or something... def more effective then simply restarting the laptop.
I'll let you guys know. hope this isnt placebo effect or coincidence, -
It has something to do with the chasis making contact with the touchpad when it has pressure on it. That's the only time my touchpad stops responding now. If I use it with my laptop placed on a table, touchpad never fails. Whenever I hold the area near the touchpad, everything fails.
-
well my touchpad was acting up regardless of where i placed it. since removing the battery the tp has been functional for a few hours now. Which is a def improvement because previously it would stick and lag and ignore taps every 5 minutes, for about ten seconds each time.
I hope it stays this way lol this laptop has been nothing but trouble since I bought it I've done more troubleshooting than anything else. -
I have considered the static charge theory as well, I think it may play a part in the whole thing, it would help to explain the randomness of the tp fails. I also believe removing the battery helps as well.
I know the software updates have helped and the wedge I put into the left side palmrest has helped as well. Maybe the wedge stops the transfer of a static charge to the tp by maintaining a certain distance from other parts.
Even after all the stuff I have done it does still come back once in a while, rarely, but it is still there. I still pack my trackball if I take my laptop out of the house. I am confident enough now to take the laptop upstairs without it though.
I will have a better idea about the static charge theory once winter arrives again with the dry air. It would be terribly disappointing to find out all of the progress made on this issue has just happened because of a change in the weather, at least in the Northern Hemisphere.
Cheers -
I just had another failure of my tp. One tap on it sends the cursor about 2 inches to the right and does not click whatever the cursor was over. I had to reboot to fix it.
So hello Gary Key, the tp is lot better but there is still some work to do.
Cheers -

I can conclude that the 15.2.11 drivers have worked best thus far. Every other one is a lot less responsive and screws up way more often. The newest beta 15.2.16 is horrible, even worse than 15.2.7
-
Theres new driver 15.2.20, you might give it a try xD ,, Hm i think this driver is not for us cause it's UltraNav something for lenovo maybe..
Stationdrivers.com
EDit : about the PollStatusIterations, iv'e found out that this is issue with windows Vista after you upgrde from Winxp. it might work cause it's only for Ps/2 and that's what we have.
http://www.watchingthenet.com/windo...d-response-after-upgrade-from-windows-xp.html
give those both a chance, the driver and the tweak.
for me i think it works pretty good with the new drivers, i don't know if i've already did the tweak but i'm happy it works
EDIT: yes i checked i have this tweak already 1. -
205 BIOS worked like a champ on my G73JW for keystroke problems. I don't drop any, anymore. Now, if just this trash--er, trackpad could be as smooth as I know it can be, this laptop would be perfect.

skygunner27 A Genuine Child of Zion
I can't believe they still haven't fixed the trackpad issues!!
-
-
I think Gary has given up on us.... This would be the perfect laptop. But its not. Its faulty
.
-
Mine is still broken as well...
-
I think he finally realized its a hardware issue... They should change all of our touchpads!
-
skygunner27 A Genuine Child of Zion
I'm so glad I ditched the G73 when I did because of the trackpad. All manufactures have their problems. At least with Alienware you can opt to have them send you the parts or tech and parts, instead of a useless RMA that can result in a returned damaged laptop.
-
I've pretty much given up. Even my choroplast hardware fix has started to not work. Keystrokes still dropping on 205 when typing fast. I've learned to type slower pretty much.
-
-
well i simply converted my screen into touch screen though it has lot of bug so not 100% still waiting for them release win7 driver which work better
-
skygunner27 A Genuine Child of Zion
I think it's time to utilize that 2 year warranty Asus brags about and RMA.
-
Do the newer JW models have this problem too? If they don't can we get a replacement TP for the JW model and and use it in the JH?
-
Version 15.3.2.0
New driver -
Also running recommended synaptic drivers seemed to help, but it still got glitchy a few times. Haven't noticed any problems at all since installing touchpad pusher-uppers. -
This sound like a noob question but did they fix the mouse pad for the asus g73 jh? becuase when i move my fingers the mouse won't move so any drivers i can download to fix this problems?

G73 Series Driver and Application Reference
Let us know, it could be a hardware issue. -
It works thanks alot
