Feedback on the beta 211 hasn't shown people locking up. Considering that you run a very modded unit firmware-wise, I'd suspect it's more of a localized issue. Let's see if the new beta helps your situation.
PS: I think your laptop is haunted.![]()

The Beta Bios made my system run better, so flashing to the new bios seems to be helping all but a very few .

A friends of mine that has a G73JH started having the exact same trackpad issue that I do. I told her about this thread and she did all the suggested install/bios flash. Her problem still exists. She then asked me how do I know Gary really works for Asus...I said I don't know? Google him.
So she did and sent me this:
width='640' height="390"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/S1lImS8aKxs&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&version=3"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/S1lImS8aKxs&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width='640' height="390"></embed></object>
I know some of you have already seen this but I thought it might be interesting for some of us who hadn't.
I don't know how Gary got involved here considering how non involved Asus is but it is nice to know that we have an insider trying clean up all this mess that he personally isn't resposible for.
Thank you Gary!!!Last edited by a moderator: May 6, 2015 -
I'm gonna take your word for it on this one HellCry. Way too much negative feedback on this one. I'll wait for the next release. -

Just installed it here, no apparent issues. -
Just flashed the new BIOS and reinstalled the drivers as per the OP.
So far so good. Thanks Santa Gary! -
Thanks Gary for uploading this on Christmas. I just downloaded and updated my system with this and the keyboard definitely feels better. Except for my bad spelling, I didn't miss any of my keystrokes.
-
It would be nice to know what was actually chaned in the bios that is improving the keyboard / trackpad funtionality. I know it will never happen
-
The only "modded" firmware im using is the MSI vBios because the Asus ones are still unstable for me.. Whatever the case, the beta Bios made my machine unstable compared to 211 and i just wanted to give a warning since it wasnt helping with missed keystrokes anyway. Im going to try the new one once i get back from vacation.
-
New BIOS=Terrible. I flashed successfully but it made a lot of my programs very unstable and freeze plus it actually messed up my keyboard! I'm getting very noticeable lag and keystroke issues now. Hell it made Windows as a whole a little unstable for me and for some reason my Wallpaper won't save now. Flashing back to the original 211.
Edit: Reverted back to the original 211, not the Beta. Everything is back the way it was. I sent my info to Gary before reverting back, hopefully that helps but yeah the new BIOS messed my crap up there. -
A disaster, touchpad went crazy. Come back. We did not own

The new bios have made my trackpad very unresponsive at times more often than before.
After I flashed the bios and booted up, the trackpad started going bonkers.
I then started uninstalling and installing the drivers per request. The keyboard as far as I can tell is perfect. I haven't ever noticed any problems with it.
What's so strange is before this flash every now and then the trackpad would become totally unresponsive and my left hand would not be recognized but my right hand could be used. Now this problem is frequentIf I enable pinch zoom my trackpad will at times become randomly unresponsive except for forced pinch zoom. I hope this makes sense. I'm half a sleep.
I will stay on these bios and use my Razer Mamba incase anyone has any suggestions.
Gary, I am considering sending in my G73JH to fix this problem soon. Is there anything I can do to make sure they don't replace my unit or perform a system recovery? All I want them to do is replace my trackpad and buttons. Is there anyone I can contact at Asus to help facilitate this?
Everythng else works PERFECTLY. I think the trackpad rocker button has a part in all of this because these problems can be more aparent with the use of the trackpad rocker button.
I'm on my 3rd G73JH. The first 2 units did not have these trackpad issues. Maybe this is a hardware problem.............. -
I'll wait till its out of beta myself.... the touch pad isn't unbearable and I only have touch pad issues, no missing keystrokes.
-
So far the new Beta b Bios are working great for me, I am not getting any missed keys or lag. This is a big improvement over the last Beta bios on my system.
What I thought was me not making full contact with the keys was not me it was the key lag or miss.
Now I can type as fast as I want and I am not missing any keys. And my S key is not dropping out like it was. I will know more on this as time goes on on the S key.
So for me this is a big improvement. One thing I was seeing on the last Bios is when I hit the same key twice while typing it would not always pick up the second key stroke, now it is not missing that key stroke. And my space bar is working every time I hit that key also. -
-
I see the bios fix for the g73jh. Does this fix work for the g73jw (3de) as well? I have been having similar (I guess the very same) problems with typing as others, but I'm hesitant to change the bios if it might diminish or disable some part of my computer that is different than the jh model.

I been using the bios the better part of the day on my JH. So far I have not had problems with touchpad, or missing keystrokes. I do have the keyboard set to HID Compliant Device though. It is way better than the previous beta bios and games like Final Fantasy XIV where the chat would take a bit to pick up receives the spaces I hit. There is where my problem is for me though. All the other keys are fine, but the spacebar was what I had problems with and it seems to be working great for me now.
-
But what every they fixed on this version the keys work and I can type as fast as I want, and the spacebar works every time I use it. Before it was to the point where I had to hit it twice almost every time. -

For those with keyboard / trackpad issues, and using latest beta, can you please do the following:
1) Uninstall your Synaptic and Keyboard Filter drivers
2) Install the newest Intel INF with the "setup.exe -overall" if you haven't already.
3) reboot and see how things work with the MS default drivers work.
4) install Keyboard Filter 1.03
5) reboot, and open up Device Manager. Go to Keyboards. Check if you have 2 devices listed. If so, change the HID one manually to "HID-compliant keyboard" reboot
6) check how things are with keys and trackpad
7) Install Synaptics, reboot
8) check how things are
Report your findings -
I think I'll wait till the update fixes the issues for the majority of the people before I update. I still have more missing keystrokes than I'd like, but its not unbearable and I don't want to take the chance of bricking my laptop to try a fix that isn't working 100% or even 75%. Hope we can get a reliable fix out soon.
-
I would like an explanation of what is being changed. I have an issue with my touchpad, my keyboard is fine. Am I wasting my time, or taking an unnecessary risk updating to the beta bios? If it is for the keyboard only please let us know. Or if it is for the keyboard and touchpad and this will possibly fix both please advise. I don't mind being a guinea pig if there is a potential benefit... I just need to know if there is one.

I really think I'm going to have to RMA my G73.
I hope a fix can be produced in the near furture.
What scares me most is that Asus may replace my G73JH or re-install the OS. Or they may bootup my PC and see that it works fine without giving it a chance to act up and send it back wasting my time.
It would be nice if Gary could give me a contact at Asus's repair facility that's informed of this issue and that could help facilitate my RMA properly.
But so far he hasn't responded to my posts
Maybe a PM is in order...........
Here we go again. I'm going back to 211.
I have never had this issue that points to the bios since 211 beta bios. This error resulted in a BSOD and memory dump.
additional info: I forgot to mention that my trackpad went bonkers just before this error was logged by the event viewer.
http://b.imagehost.org/0217/Here_we_go_again.png -
Seems that the 2nd beta bios has resulted in ... no problems.
Trackpad seems to be fine here, so far. And same with the keyboard. Typing "feels" different, but that might be because I'm not missing keys (or hitting them extra hard to make sure that it's a hardware-miss). -
I been working with the trackpad and the keyboard for the last 2 days. I actually have not problems since then. I did change my keyboard to the HID Compliant device which has been more responsive for me. Overall, it seemed to help me alot.

New Bios Beta2 is working fine here
-
skygunner27 A Genuine Child of Zion
I went back to official 211 bios. I haven't had any Event 15 errors since and my trackpad is all good again so far.............................
I wonder why the trackpad is usually temporarly good after a bios flash? -
The new Beta Bios B have been working great, can type fast and the space bar works when you use it. But now my ( s ) key is dropping out again, it was not doing that on the last Bios test.
I have to restart the software I was using to get the ( s ) key back and that is a bummer when you have typed pages of code and have to stop and save and restart . And it does this will any software I am using , browsers it does not matter.
I'll be glad when they get this nailed down. -
Maybe one of the bios is a placebo
2) Install the newest Intel INF with the "setup.exe -overall" if you haven't already.
Where do we get this from? -
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...hipset+Software+Installation+Utility&lang=eng
Use WinRar or 7zip to extract the package to a folder, and open a Command Prompt in that directory. (Hold down Shift and right-click on the directory folder. You'll see an drop-down option to open one up) Then just run "setup.exe -overall" -
Thanks Chastity, my confusion was which one to use, off the Asus site or the Intel site.
I have installed the beta 2 bios and done the recommended software installs. So far so good... it has only been ten minutes though. I will post back if it still acts up, or in a day or two if the touchpad is fixed. -
Hmmm, I don't think I'm gonna update with this anymore, all my issues has been solved before this game out so its been months since then, Very happy G73JH owner.
-
same here (keyboard fine , touchpad sometimes get crazy but very rarelly) -
Tried the second beta and as some have said its even worse... Made my laptop even more unstable.
Debug info sent, reverted to 211. -

Maybe I'll just go buy a new G73JH and swap the trackpad/rocker bar button and return it.
How hard is it to remove and replace the trackpad?
This is probably the 12th laptop I've owned and out of all them I have never had a full in your face trackpad rebellion.
This is REALLY annoying -
I have a G73JH A1 and it works really well for me. Maybe there are different variations based on model? Probably why some has success while others not so much?
-
One thing I noticed a lot was how frequent the palm could gently touch the touchpad when typing on this laptop. This could be causing some issues to some people.
-
My touchpad is still not right. The touchpad was flakey with the Windows driver as well as the Synaptics one. The new bios may have been a fix for the keyboard issue, it is not a fix for the touchpad. It is so weird how it can work well for a couple of hours and then fail. Certain activities seem to trigger the fail, certainly not with any regularity though. The activities I have noticed that seem to trigger it at certain times are:
- Using the button, either side.
- When the cursor is in text mode, like when on a webpage where text can be entered.
- A brush across the scroll zone with a finger.
- A palm touch while typing, or maybe it is the typing that does it. -
Same here , this fixed my Keyboard as it does not lag and the key strokes work, but now I am back to losing my ( s ) key , and it is random when it happens.
The space bar works now and be for I had to hit it twice most of the time.
I can use my trackpad but when it is in use for awhile it gets flaky , and I have the palm touch set up to full as it will do crazy things if my hand touches it while typing.
The buttons on the Trackpad are hard to use, you have to push hard for them to work and you can not feal anything nor can you hear a click . This is the first trackpad that I have had do this.
I do not know if this has anything to do with the error but it seems that when the computer gets warm after using it for awhile the track pad starts having issues. It may not be the heat but it happens after it is on for awhile. I have not timed how long yet but I am going to do that and see if I can track down any pattern on this.
I am seven months into my warranty and I want this fixed before it runs out and then someone at ASUS says sorry we cannot do anything to help as your warranty has expired! The track pad and the Audio issues with the Creative software and the keyboard are some of the main parts on the system , and they are the ones not working as they should.
I am wondering how ASUS is going to get this fixed .
I do not have the money to just run down and buy an other computer so have to get this one working as it should before the warrant runs out.
Already the Fan they put on the Video card is failing and that had to be replaced from the start. Going with out your computer for Ten weeks is not right , I hope Gary and crew come up with a fix for all of this as I have been fighting these problems from the day I got this Notebook and started using it.
I have spent $350.00 USD more on this Notebook shipping it around to be fixed and paying off BestBuy to get it back after they kept it for three weeks from the first week I got it and it would not work. I had to pay to get it back from BestBuy as they said that it was ASUS fault and would not give me back my Brand new system! I have had to pay to Ship this For the Warranty by ASUS and the Ins. on the system.
I could have bought a much better Notebook than I did if I had spent the money that I have had to pay to get a New system fixed that is under warranty.
ASUS fixed the Notebook but when I started using it I found that the Fan that was put on the Video card is not the right one, it does not send back the data that the other do.
I have not been able to type as the keyboard has not worked well and the Touch pad did not work right or work right most of the time.
And this is on a Brand New Notebook.
Now I am glad Gary is helping get some of this fixed, but how much longer are we to wait? It has been seven Months for me and longer for some of the others. And we still do not have a fix, my sound is still not right but we make do with what we have waiting to see if we ever get a fix for that.
I do not know about the rest of you but being Disabled and on a fixed income I do not have the money to keep doing this. And I should not have had to pay any money at all to get this system fixed. I have been played between two company's not wanting to deal with the issues. BestBuy was the worst, And other than having to Pay for shipping and Ins, ASUS did at least get the Notebook where it would boot up and run. But it is still not fixed as it should and I am really getting tired of having to wait for weeks at a time to try something to see if it works.
I just want my Notebook to work as it should and I really do not want to have to wait for months more to get it done. -
FYI: Found a KB Filter (still 1.0.0.3) package on Asus site dated 12/20/2010 You're welcome to try it.

We're exactly on the same page as far as te trackpad/rocker button goes.....how lame. I've also dealt with Asus RMA in the past and gotten no where. Instead I had get the model replaced.
I'm worried that if I send in my unit only for the trackpad/button they might do nothing and can't find the problem, reinstall the OS or swap for a refurb plaged with problems. I've tried to ask Gary in private and through the open forum to help facilitate an RMA since he already has an understanding dealing with this defect.
I have yet to get a response
I'm really starting to believe that Asus doesn't care at ALL once they get your money...It's not like I'm asking for a refund...I probably should at this point. I've done so much troubleshooting that I haven't had time to enjoy this Asus product.
Lame -
I understand your pain Battlenut, I was pushing for a refund when they had mine for 10+ weeks. Also, I spent a bunch of money shipping *and* had the asus360 ... *sigh* Well, with a bit of luck they'll take care of you.

@skygunner27
I have to wonder how may people have this G73 and are using it are having problems typing and think it is something they are doing while trying to type and it does not work, or lags and misses keys.
I know that I thought it was me not pressing down and making contact as to why it did not work. I was not used to this type of keyboard so I thought it was me. The last bios update showed me just how much the keyboard was not working right!
And the Audio issues, we have drivers cobbled together so we can get sound and not have a reboot, as the software that was on the system did not work. We cannot get bass and I do not need to type the list of issues with the Audio.
We have to get something done .
I would like Gary to come on and let us know what is going to happen and the plan they have to get the G73's fixed and working .
As to testing and working with Gary I do not mind doing that in any way. But we need some answers on what we can expect on this matter , and what ASUS is going to do for those of us that have systems that are not working.
I'll say it again, I and we have been fighting this from the day we got our G73's , we have had to deal with a Brand New high end gaming machine that is not working. -

@BattleNut
What's so scary to me is that I feel that I have invested a HUGE amount of time (ALMOST 9 MONTHS) in troubleshooting "OUT OF THE BOX" problems and finally have a almost working unit except for the trackpad/button.
I DO NOT want to risk ASUS RMA replacing my unit with Uncle Bob's old refurb. If they can find the problem that's most likely what they'll do.
When I called Asus about RMA I tried to request actually fixing my trackpad/button and not replacing my entire unit. They could not give me a straight answer. I've come to undertsand that Asus technical support has NO control over what the Asus repair facilites do. Even at the request of a customer. What makes matters worse is that they can't even provided a real time status of repair.
After I bought this G73JH I bought a M17x-R2( I still own the M17 and it has been problem free since day one) and a M11x-R1.
My trackpad is starting to act up again
My Alienware M11x-R1( cost less than my G73JH) was BSODing when I set the CPU to overclock in the BIOS. I called Dell support to RMA. They paid for the shipping and within 5 days I had received a Upgraded M11x-R2.
The explanation said I was given this brand new upgraded unit to avoid a 3 week waiting period and to get me back into the game.
Now that's how customer service is suppose to be!!!
After dealing with p!$$-poor customer service from Asus(I still do appreciate what Gary/Co/Chasity has brought to the table) but at this point I don't even care about future Asus products because of "OUR" experience with the way Asus has neglected to handled these problems like out dated audio that isn't even W7 certified.
I'm already almost done saving for a M17x-R3. I'll probably hold onto my M17x-R2 until I feel comfortable with the R3. I don't even visit the boards there because my unit performs flawlessly as far as I can tell. What's really sad is that I remember when "WE" were all so excited about the G73JH before it was released. There must have been 3 seperate threads here all about the G73JH over 100+ pages long. If you look back to those days you'll find that most of those people excited jumped ship to other brands like Sager, MSI, Clevo & Alienware because of out of the box problems and excessive Asus RMA's. I even read about members buying brand new G73's and having out of the box problems and getting back a refurb from Asus.
I want to keep going but I can't bare this jumpy trackpad any longer this morning -
I'll just be sticking to 211. The first beta BIOS was solid but it gave me minor issues, the second just messed my machine up. The touchpad is pretty much my only issue with the G73 but with the updated drivers and just general care toward it, it remains solid and has been for awhile. I've kind of figured out what makes the touchpad go nuts for me and just try avoid it. A lot of gestures confuse it and if you don't use it in exactly the right way, it goes nuts. There's definitely a connection to the pinch and zoom gestures, I'm just thinking it's just better to disable it. My methods work but I shouldn't have to be annoyingly super specific, careful and what-not when I use this thing. My 7811FX was a hunk of garbage but the touchpad was perfect at least and never once went nuts.
I don't know. I got my G73 6 months ago and while I had touchpad and small issues, gaming and general use has always been perfect. Can't exactly say I hate Asus when I'm not that frustrated with the G73, the touchpad isn't intrusive enough in my day to day activities to really get frustrated.
