You've gotta turn of HBAO, iirc.

Shadows will kill performance. Also, turn off AA.

of course it stutters at the beginning, it's still loading. And heavy firing is CPU bound.

Seems not, eh. Generally, if it's smoke and shadows that slow it down, it's GPU. If it's bullets and other related non-graphical changes, it's CPU.

For example: Grenade goes off, you get a slow down because of all the smoke, that's GPU.

Guns going crazy, no visual effects, that's CPU.

Also, when black ops was released, it had very VERY poor multi-core support. If you havn't patched the game for this, then you'll have choppy gameplay.

Here are a couple of things that I have done to get this game super smooth on my G73JH. Some of it should translate over to the JW.

Here is a screen shot of my graphic settings:

Also a couple of "console" commands that help a bit as well. When in multi-player game, hit the "~" key to bring up the console. Type in the following the commands:

    /r_multiGPU 0
    /r_multithreaded_device 1

The game for some reason sets these to the opposite for our machines. I use these settings and the game runs smooth as silk. I generally get 70-90 FPS in a multi-player game. I'm using MSI AfterBurner to monitor FPS.

Make sure you have multi-GPU disabled and multi-CPU enabled. Google on how to do it.

I personally play on 720p, because larger resolutions are impractical for competitive FPS, and it runs perfectly smooth no matter what.

    Glad I could help.

Something else I noticed, after every update/patch for Black Ops, deleting the config_mp.cfg file and allowing the game to create a new one seems to help with the stuttering and lag. But once you do, you will need to re-enter the console commands and settings since they are stored in this file.

These settings helped me too :) ... Now i have just the initial stutering on game load for about 20 seconds or so.... I kept the widescreen to auto and sync every frame to yes... that proved better... but thanks a lot.. had fun playing today and my kill ratio was better :D
