It was a black screen with vertical lines.

    BIOS V: 213
vBios: I don't know how to check this but it's Chastitys original verison (od1 I think)

I was playing the original Splinter Cell game a few days ago when I got a few BSOD after a few hours of play. I then was reading something in a forum and realized that I only upgraded my vBios a few months ago and my Bios was still 206. So I upgraded to 213. Now when I launch Splinter Cell I get the BSOD about 1 min into gameplay and it's happened twice. Everytime it happens the computer locks up and I have to hold the power button to shutdown. What can I do?

Did the flash complete successfully without any problems? Might be an idea to flash again if not. Any changes in drivers that could have caused this? When you say BSOD do you mean black or blue?

Does it do this on every game or just Splinter Cell?

Black Screen never Blue. Splinter cell is the only one I've tested but before I flashed to 213 I had problems with other games just not this bad/frequent. No other changes that I know of and I don't recall if it said 100% successful but it didn't look like there were any problems.

You can check the vBIOS version easily either with F2 @ POST to enter BIOS. (1st page) or use GPU-Z to get the version number.

    Using GPU-Z it's 012.020.000.032.038352

Would it be something with audio drivers? I don't have the creative stuff installed and the two audio drivers I have are:

    - Realtek Hi Def Audio 6.0.1.5978
    - ATI HDMI Audio 6.0.1.6121

Have you got any virtual drives running? If so uninstall them.

Its hard to tell what is causing it and I doubt it would be the audio drivers those you have are fine and the only problems related to the audio is lock up and static noise.

It might be an idea to do a factory reset if you think you have flashed the BIOS to 213 correctly.

Wait, black screen of death.... Such a thing exists? Does it just reboot or it turns black and stays that way till you force shutdown?

Well black screen with vertical lines. I didn't really think about the name too much. I had to force shutdown.

Anyway I reflashed my bios and unistalled the virtual drive I had on my computer. So far no problems. I don't know if it was a bad flash or the drive. Thanks for your help guys. I guess I'll bump this thread if I do run into problems.

Try turning off Powerplay in the Catalyst Control Center. Go to Power/Powerplay and remove the check mark from the box.
