So, I went to the Asus site. I decided to go back to 10.1 from 10.6 to see if there was a difference. Used the ATI auto uninstall. Rebooted in safe mode, uninstalled the driver via Windows, ran driver sweeper and CCleaner. Then I ran Setup from the download I got from the Asus site, went through the process, rebooted normally.
I started up Photoshop CS5, tried to open up a picture and it crashed. Reopened and it said that there was an issue with GPU enhancements and it was disabled.
I went over to GPU-Z and I checked the driver version. To my surprise, it says:
atiumdag 8.683.0.0 (Catalyst 10.7) /Win7 64
Uh. Yeah. So what's goin' on there? Going to run some games and do a few things and see if I get a GSOD.
-
To further the mystery, I just used the ATI uninstall tool again. Rebooted, checked GPUZ.
Now it says:
atiumdag 8.753.5.0 (Catalyst 10.7)/Win7 64 -
The Catalyst version string ("10.1", "10.7", etc.) is missing from the older driver package configurations, so there's nothing to overwrite the newer version strings.
The actual driver version is the important number. 8.683.0.0 is the original stock driver version so you should be good.
*edit*
8.753.5.0 is the 10.7 hotfix, yes?
Just another example of why whenever you revert to older ATI driver versions, you should clean the registry to avoid this confusion -
Just uninstalled and reinstalled again and it's back down to 8.683.0.0 with no Catalyst 10.7 in the name. -
I had the same problem. I uninstalled 10.6 and went back to stock and 10.6 was still on GPU-Z.
Now its gone and fix after a few installs and uninstalls. I think that the 10.6 remains because windows tries to install the driver of the 5870 automatically as I saw when i rebooted into safe mode for driver sweeper.
"Installing ATI Mobility 5870" flashed on the bottom right, so I uninstalled it again in the Device Manager (Still in SAFE MODE). Then ran driver sweeper then rebooted and installed stock.
The "10.X" also appears in GPU-Z when you havent installed any driver yet after windows installed the 5870
now back to stock, now i can downclock to 300/400 then back up without GSOD
and now Core and Mem temps differ by 0.5~1C -
Just installed 10.7. Having issues that I never saw before. Black boxes popping up everywhere, some with red and green dots. I'll provide an attachment. Going to go ahead and go back to my old setup.
What does this mean? Is there an issue with the card or just the driver?Attached Files:

Did it disappear when you downgraded your driver? Maybe its a driver thing since the ATI Drivers dont really work as they should on the G73 because of the Asus vBIOS
-
I haven't tested anything yet. Just downgraded. I'll post in a bit.
EDIT:
Just tested.
Yeah. It's fine again. -
*Blinks* I'm.. confused... 10.7?
