Unfortunately I had formatted my G75VW to install Win 8 and in the process I lost the Blu Ray playback software which came installed. Is there anyway for me to get the software back (can't even remember the name) or is there any free software available for Win 8 that plays Blu-Ray discs? Thanks for the help.

When you say free... I want to make sure we have similar opinions on what that means... nudge nudge wink wink... haha
Does Cyberlink sound familiar? I think that's one of the preload ones. If you had it *legally* before there are numerous ways to "obtain" it again.
I'm pretty sure I'm toeing the line here, but in all seriousness, unless your laptop came with a separate cd with serial or you wrote the serial number down (or can restore to factory and hope that includes it), chances are you're up poop-creek with no propulsion apparatus. There isn't any "free" blu ray players as they have to license the codec/encryption keys.
PowerDVD 12 No.1 Blu-ray & Media Player
World's Leading Blu-ray 3D Player Software - ArcSoft TotalMedia Theatre 5
And, you can supposedly use VLC if you are tech savvy, though it is very not-feature-rich (loading disc menus and BD+ encryption are still issues). I would do everything you can to get the old one back, otherwise you are looking at one of the two above. -

Have you looked for any discs that may have come with your system?

I'll check and see if I still have the CDs, cos like a fool I decided to format the recovery partition as well thinking I'd be able to get whatever software I need again from ASUS website. Clever me. If not sounds like I'll either have to settle for VLC or shell out for one of the software Sublime mentioned. Thanks guys, and Happy New Year too!

Hi, i check VLC which can play all the popular DVD, video, audio files and some of the Blu-ray movies, but it never supports the commercial disc well. All the famous blu-ray player software are commercial or shareware because of the Blu-ray authorization fee like PowerDVD, etc. Most of them offer the trial version, if you can not find the appropriate tool from ASUS website, just try and select one of them.
1. PowerDVD Blu-ray Player(time-limited)
2. Macgo Blu-ray Player for Windows(watermarked)
3. Arcsoft Total Media Player(time-limited)
4. WinDVD Blu-ray Player(time-limited) -
Thanks Amy. Right now I'm using VLC, while it's not ideal (missing menus and such), its an affordable alternative for me at the moment. If it doesn't get any better after a few updates I'll probably end up buying one of the software you mentioned. Thanks again!

I remember a little while back the Asus oem version of PowerDVD with BluRay support was posted. It worked great... I can even find an old link to the file on Chastity's old driver/software page full of links. Unfortunately the link is now dead. Does anybody have a working link?
I like the original poster reformatted and didnt back that program up as I assumed it was still readily available. -

In order to watch Blu-ray discs or BD ISO on Windows 8, you must have three things: 1) a Blu-ray disc drive, 2) a Blu-ray movie, and 3) Blu-ray Player Software(Need decrypting Blu-ray function). It is this third one – software – that causes the majority of problems for Blu-ray users. The free player like Windows Media Player, VLC Player, etc don’t have Blu-ray decrypting function and not support playing Blu-ray movies. So UFUSoft Blu-ray Player for Windows 8 is the best solution for you.

If purchasing software you are best shopping around and reading reviews for the best ones.

Be careful! Don't be cheated by the crippled one. Only those four mentioned by Amy are legitimate. Never trust others.
