I bought a G73Jh-X5 from Microcenter about a week ago, and this forum has been a great help (thanks!). I successfully updated by BIOS, vBIOS & video drivers based on all the great info here, and that solved my out-of-the-box issue of not being able to run the DX11 version of Civ 5. Everything else seems OK, except Bluetooth.

Until last night, I'd been using a MIcrosoft Bluetooth mouse that came as a set with a keyboard, that I've been using with my old laptop for years. Maybe a couple of times after I paired it with the GH73, some glitch occurred where it stopped working but still showed as normal in Bluetooth Devices. Removing & re-adding it fixed it right up, so this was a minor nuisance.

Last night, I was web-surfing and ran into something for which I needed to install Quicktime. During the Quicktime install, the mouse quit working again. It looked the same as before, but removing & re-adding it didn't help.

So far, I've done the following (in more or less this order)...

Removed & reinstalled Bluetooth drivers from the ASUS web site, the version they offered up for the G73Jh.

Fiddled with Bluetooth Service logon settings per info from some other site, then (hopefully) put it back like it was when that didn't work. I say "hopefully" because somewhere about this time the problem changed from "mouse pairs but doesn't work even though Windows says all is well" to "mouse isn't found when I try to add it", so maybe I messed something up even worse than before.

Tried a different Bluetooth Mouse, a brand-new-in-the-package MS Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000.

Called MicroSoft tech support about the new mouse not being found - after the technician took remote control & fiddled some, he declared the mouse defective and signed me up to receive a new one.

Confirmed both mice actually work on my old laptop (so the new one actually isn't defective).

Made sure Bluethooth is actually turned on (turned it off & back on).

Checked the Bluetooth Service logon settings on my old laptop & made the settings on the G73Jh more or less the same (old lappy has a Toshiba BT stack and only one Bluetooth-related Service, vs two on the G73Jh).

Removed the driver again and also the BT-270 via Device Manager, let Windows find & reinstall the BT-270 on reboot then install the ASUS-provided driver again.

Removed the driver & installed one Chastity linked to in another thread on this board (the file she provided actually said Windows 7 while the one ASUS provided said Vista).

Made really sure I was pairing right - hold the button until the mouse starts blinking red-green, then tell Windows to add the device.

None of the above worked - still doesn't see either mouse.

I randomly have the same problem, it will just decide to stop working completely and the only way I have been able to get it to work is disabling/enabling TDT/VT-D options in the bios, the bluetooth has given me nothing but problems on the G73.

Seems like it's a chipset thing. Also, I've *always* had problems with bluetooth accessories, no matter what computer / accessory I use.

These are something on the BIOS setup utility menu?

So this degree of problem is common on these computers?

I've basically been successful with Bluetooth mice & keyboards on the last several computers I've set up for use by myself or family. The ocasional glitch, like mouse curser getting jerky periodically until I cycle its power (pull & reinstall batteries - the new one has a switch), but otherwise working well. With the setup I'm looking at on the G73, though, going back to a USB mouse wouldn't be that big of a deal.

I had one of those Microsoft 5000 model bluetooth jobs myself. I found bluetooth to be a little unreliable. Jerky cursor, switch it off and on again kind of thing like you are talking about.

I bought a Logitech Performance MX after I gave the bluetooth one to my sister-in-law. It rocks. It has a tiny USB nub that has a range of thirty feet. The mouse works great. It's a shame that the bluetooth isn't more reliable than that, but if you are in the market for a good mouse, I highly recommend this one. They have a tiny laptop sized one, but I like the full size version.

Interesting thought. I started with non-Bluetooth wireless and found them unrelable, then went to Bluetooth several years ago which worked better (if not 100% flawlessly). It sounds like the non-BT stuff has improved.

Logitech has a new wireless technology... basically it's like bluetooth but it actually works. They call it "Unified Wireless" or something like that. I have a wireless Logitech Keyboard and mouse. They both work off the same little nub. They both have a range of thirty feet plus. I can connect the laptop to the big screen tv and sit on the couch and use the mouse and keyboard... it's about 17 feet away. The cool thing is that the wireless never has any hiccups and the scan rate must be pretty high because it behaves just like a wired setup when I'm gaming. I really like it. No lag... unlike the built-in touchpad/keyboard. :(

    Sold!

Then I won't have to fix the Bluetooth, I guess...

I picked up an Anywhere Mouse MX, a notebook variant of that Performance MX. So far, so good. As soon as I plugged in the tiny dongle, windows loaded drivers from someplace and the thing started working. The normal buttons & scroll wheel work as expected. The extra functions don't seem to work - two extra buttons & the scroll whel moving sideways. I guess I need to install the software to make those work, but I don't think I need them so it seems like bloatware I can pass on.

I had this issue with a bluetooth keyboard until I updated the bluetooth drivers [not available on Asus' website].

I like the drivers. I don't know about the one you bought, but mine has a zoom button, back and forward buttons, and a button on your thumb that makes all open windows open in a grid pattern so you can click one to bring to the front. Sort of like an Alt + Tab on steroids. It works just fine without the drivers too, though.

    Where did you get them?
