I didn't have any problems until i fired it up to check my mail before going to bed. The computer posts and turns on normally but the screen goes blank at the logon screen. After about a minute the screen comes back and it logs in no problem. I haven't experienced any gpu errors and the temps are well within range.

I was troubleshooting java for a customer and probably got into some sort of malicious code that doesn't show up on any antivirus. I just plan to wipe the machine and start fresh, but i'm just wondering if anybody has seen this weird issue?

I was running the latest drivers 310.90, but i reverted and did a clean install of 306.97 just to make sure the drivers weren't to blame. It takes a good minute to shutdown the computer as well.

I've checked the ssd for fragmented files and everything was fine. I'm out of ideas, i'm thinking a os reload is the only way to solve this issue.

Found another weird but interesting thing. When i reboot it will take the normal 12-15 secs to shutdown and will boot up normally. If i pick shutdown it will take a minute to shutdown and more than a min to boot.

Here's an updated screenshot of me choosing shutdown, then reboot, then shutdown.

Try a System Restore back to the time when all was good. You may have gotten a subpar driver installation.

Yeah i tried that, system restore completed but the problem still remains. The 310.90 installation was done on the 13th and everything was fine. Any other suggestions? I think it has something to do with java (which has been removed), but it acts as a graphics driver issue.

So i just figured out what it was. I put in a dummy sd plastic piece to plug the sd slot on my laptop and it got stuck in there. So i decided to use a sd to mini sd adapter without a mini sd card in it. Apparently that made it hang while windows loaded the sd card driver. I was just thinking about it, removed the card and the computer shut down in about 7 seconds and started up in 15.

Just figured i'd post the solution to this particular problem.

Thank you Chastity for trying to help.

Just glad the issue was rectified. You can proceed on murdering the SD adaptor :)

I think i'm just going to leave it empty for now unless i find one that fits well. You would think all sd dummy cards would be the same, but they're not. I think i'll work on finishing my afterburner led mod either today or tomorrow. Thanks again for your help.

I just want to follow up here. I found a dell sd dummy card that would fit but having anything in that slot when you boot your computer is going to cause the system to hang for a minute. It's best just to leave it empty.

Go into the BIOS with the dummy card in the PC. Find the boot options and turn off booting from SD card/USB devices. I bet the sensor for detecting a SD card is making the computer pause and try to read the SD card before the PC actually boots.

That wouldn't help, the ssd is set as the first boot device, it's after it loads the first windows logon screen with the flowerbox animation.

Boot racer is the program that keeps track of your bootup times. Since i work with slow computers all day long i don't have the patience to wait for my personal computer to boot up.

You can download boot racer here - BootRacer
