I purchased an Asus G53SW-XN1 from Newegg that was on sale for $892 with a $100 mail-in-rebate last week, and it literally just arrived today. The problem is that I powered it on, and there were 3 columns of dead pixels on the screen. Needless to say I am going to return it, but I want to take advantage of the $100 mail-in-rebate that expires on 9/30.
Should I RMA it via Newegg or call Asus to get it fixed?

it's up to you. you should still qualify for the rebate even if you rma to newegg.
lcd panels are easy to replace, without taking apart the whole laptop.
they just snap off the bezel around the screen.
so there's little risk of breaking anything else.
however, if you're going to RMA, it's probably best that you wrap it in some protection so they don't scratch it up.
several layers of plastic or paper bags and tape should work well.
just mummify the laptop, except the bezel area and battery slot. Then write "please handle with care" on it.
asus uses a bunch of different computer shops that act as repair centers.
The one you'll send it to is in los angeles.

well this thing isn't even a day old and it's already got the dead pixel columns, so I'm just going to get a new one. I've got the original box and even the original newegg shipping box so that isn't a problem.
Would there be a benefit to sending it to Asus for repairs or RMA it back to newegg? -
Not sure if newegg handles the RMAs. AFAIK they will re-direct you to ASUS.

dang, sorry to hear that. I just placed my order last night when they became available again. I have my fingers crossed that my power button works and no dead pixels.
I was planning on installed a SSD and a fresh windows install. Would that affect me if I had to RMA for some reason? -

If it falls under their return policy, I would recommend returning it to Newegg. Since it's brand new, that would likely give you a much faster turnaround time than a repair.

Call newegg to swap out the unit for another one.

for anyone wondering this is the form:
http://images10.newegg.com/uploadfilesfornewegg/rebate/SH/ASUS34-230-027Sep7Sep3011yh62.pdf
From what it looks, you should be fine to RMA it, the 9/30 only means you have to purchase it by then, and submit the rebate form within 30 days of the listed purchase date -
how does that rebate works? do they refund u or somethin?
