I just got my laptop from gentech pc and its really sick. I had some questions though if anyone can help out. Is it better to overclock the CPU manually instead of the turbo boost. Should i reinstall the windows? Since asus installed so much stuff, there is literally 77 processors running. I don't want my performance to get screwed up due to reinstalling. Also they did not include a recovery CD where i can install a fresh copy of windows 7 onto the laptop.
Are there any drivers i should update? Aka graphics driver shows driver version 8.683.0.0. Should i update that since i've heard of problems with new catalysts? They included a driver Cd but that's about it and was wondering if there's anything they installed that really good to have or would be able to get back if i reinstall, as in things to make features like turboboost and other things to work.

Here's the link on how to do a clean install of windows 7: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/468027-complete-walk-through-doing-clean-windows-7-install.html (thanks kalim
). Some of the asus software is useful, much of it is pure bloatware though.
As far as updating goes, i recommend updating to bios 209. Read the guide on how to update the bios in the asus forum before.
Regarding the GSOD with new ATI drivers, you can update, if you get GSODs just revert back to the stock asus drivers. -
What about overclocking the CPU. I've read around you can overclock the 720qm i7 while disabling turbo boost and people getting up to 3.2ghz power. Or is the stock settings good for gaming already. Ive never had a i7 core with the overclock feature, when playing games do i have to press the boost button?

No one is getting 3.2 GHz from the 720qm unless they are overclocking. The absolute most you could expect from stock is 2.8 GHz and that would only happen as long as you were using a single core. The breakdown for maximum Turbo mode is:
4 core = 1.73
3 core = 1.73
2 core = 2.40
1 core = 2.80
To get 3.2 GHz on a single core with Turbo mode on but without overclocking you would need a 920xm processor. For most things, you want Turbo mode off.
