Hey guys. I just noticed a bright spot on my LCD screen. It doesn't seem to be noticeable on a black background, but on any other color, is. It's not a dead or stuck pixel (as it's much bigger) but looks like something underneath the LCD; if that makes sense. I was doing a quick search and a couple of people mentioned that it could be caused by some sort of crinkle inside/behind the LCD screen? I do not know how this could possible be as I'm very careful with my laptop and very seldom transport it off my desk.

Any comments on this? I would prefer to resolve this myself as I keep hearing nightmares about ASUS warranty service...

Oh btw, my lcd screen is a AUO109D in case anyone was interested.

    Thanks!

Apple. Asus and a lot of manufacturers have this issue. It is most likely screen bleeding, and you possibly need to RMA it, although some have had it go away with use. maybe just watch it for a couple of weeks and if it doesn't go away, then RMA it.

Thanks for the quick reply. Isn't screen bleeding usually along the edges of the screen? This spot is about an inch from the edge. I took a couple of pictures.

I had the exact same problem. RMA'd for it.

Of course, now I have other problems, but at least my white spot is fixed. :p

    hey alaric. thanks for replying.

i tried to wait a few days, just to see if the spot would go away but it didn't. so it got me thinking that maybe i could just upgrade the screen to a matte version or something.

i was browsing a thread for switching/upgrading g73 screens and noticed screenshots.

as i mentioned in my original post, some people mentioned that the bright spot could be something behind the screen pressing against it; like the foil sheet.

when i was looking at the install pictures for upgrading the lcd screen, the foil sheet immediately got my attention and made me think..."hmm, could this be the problem? can i fix this myself by possibly doing something with whatever is behind the screen?".

what do you guys think? here is the thread in question with pictures: http://forum.notebookreview.com/hardware-components-aftermarket-upgrades/506184-upgrading-g73jh-best-buy-screen-guide.html

    thanks!

I just purchased a laptop and I have an identical issue. I think I'll RMA it considering that isn't the only imperfection on the computer. The track pad is uneven and the traction of your finger while using it causes it to rattle. :I

By the way, it is an HP Envy sleekbook with a touch screen.

It's an issue with the light diffusing layers which guide the backlight below the panel proper.

There is an hp forum though where you can post with other users who may be able to advise on return tips.
