    Hi guys,

So I recently started playing Bulletstorm on my Asus G73J and I must say I was really disappointed with the performance. First of all, on Catalyst I set the 3D setting to optimal performance, and set the in-game graphic settings to mediums and one low, WITH NO anti-aliasing, highest resolution and it was still not smooth. I mean is the G73 already that outdated that I can't even play Bulletstorm with a smooth frame rate or do you guys think something is wrong with either my video drivers or my notebook? If anyone else has a G73J and is playing Bulletstorm, please tell me your experience and settings and any other help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hey! There's been some discussion of this in the forum, and the consensus is : bad coding. Seriously, lots of PC owners are having the problem, it was featured on engadget a week back. And arstechnica.

As the main char. in the game would say What the ?

Im running maxed and smooth on my JH. Dont use Cata. Its better to have it on auto. Strange as it might seem maxing the settings there will take the game FPS way down. The graphics will still look the same as on auto mode but FPS is down + some things that AA regulates in games will not work if cata is set manualy. In some games some textures were even missing if cata was manualy set on my JH.

Same story with Crysis. Makes a very sad $1800less panda.

Bulletstorm is just sad, but the better looking and smoother crysis 2 demo plays flawlessly on me g73...really eager to know how the final game will run, especially single player. Anyway, Bulletstorm = bad coding.

Hmm I beat it late last night and already uninstalled it lol but I'm pretty sure I was playing it at max settings just fine, certainly nothing at the low spec.

First, Bulletstorm needs an update form developer which is comming. So far, you can download a modified defaultengine.ini from this address. Just follow the instrucction and I can say, the game is awesome and beautiful. Very playable and enjoyable out of the box for me. I finished with settings maxed out in stock clocks at 1080p (don't use AA and deactivate vsync). If you want performance, just start editing stormengine.ini and follow instruction from here.

So far, just finished the game, I enjoyed it a lot. I tweaked some cvar for max performance, and most of the time the game was stable a 60 fps.

In addition, don't waste your time messing with catalyst since the game deactivates all the tweaks from catalyst panel. Just use cat 11.2 from AMD and you will be fine.

And about Crysis 2, the performance is disappointed, even the 5870m does not work at full load. IMO, excessive abuse of post-processing techniques render the game glowing.

Do we all have different systems or something? I thought G73 users were having bad performance when it came to Crysis 2?

lol I have fine performance. I think it's a terrible game, but 45 fps is fine for me.

dont use catalyst control center, get rid of it. it causes a bunch of problems. I updated my video driver and didnt notice it installed CCC and went to play dead space 2. even on low graphics I could not play it, because it lagged so bad. as soon as I removed CCC it worked great, was able to play on everything maxed out. my step-dad also had a problem with CCC on 2 of his desktops at home, they caused his graphics cards to not work properly and when he deleted CCC from the computers, the cards worked flawlessly.

I noticed that if your playing on resolutions with ratios other than 16:9 fps seems to be capped at 30. I play at 720p with all high 4xaa and its a constant 62fps and occasional 30 fps dips, but i suspect thats just pure rubbish coding. Crysis 2 runs like crap for me as well, play at 1680x1050 gamer settings 50-60fps, on advanced i get 40-50

Wow thanks for the replies guys! So helpful knowing that Bulletstorm has bad coding and that I shouldn't be using CCC so I uninstalled it right away. Dunno if its just a placebo effect, but I feel like its gotten a little better already. I just want to know how I can check the version of my video driver. Lotta people say 11.x but when I look it says 8.xxxxx so not sure if I'm looking at the same numbers. Anyways thank you already for all the great info!

No, you're looking at the Driver Packaging Version number...below that is the Catalyst number...that's what everyone is referring to as far as the driver goes.
