Hey all![]()
Next week I'm buying an Asus G73 SW for college (I know what you're thinking, a gaming laptop, for college?! Let's say I need alot of graphic power for the things I do) but I'm a bit worried..
On paper the laptop seems absolutely amazing, especially for it's price. But after digging around on the internet a bit I found alot of complains about a wide range of hardware malfunctions, and alot of issues with asus customer support on top of the breakdowns..
Now I was wondering, how valid are those complaints? Is there a high percentage of G73 laptops that break down prematurely?
The main reason I'm very worried is the fact this is a HUGE invesment for me, I had to get a student loan just to be able to afford this laptop, so if it ends up breaking down I'm royally screwed since this laptop is a must for college... The specific model I'm buying is an ASUS G73SW-TZ259V.
Any help is GREATLY appreciated!![]()
Edit: I just found out the only reliable shop stocking the G73 is sold out, so I'm now considering paying extra for an ASUS G74SX-TZ019V (wich is still in stock)
Any opinions about this model over the G73? And are there any known issues like there were with the G73?

Consider that most people that post on the web about there laptop is usually due to that they need help due to something went wrong. I myself didnt start posting until i was getting a video driver error due to me OCing the GPU.
The newer models being the G73sw and the newest G74 have had very little issues compared to the older G73 jh and jw units. I have a G73sw-xa1 and love it. I had it in for RMA for 2.5 weeks for my driver issue that i created. If i left it mostly stock i would have never had the problem. Since getting it back I again have now OCed it right and did a clean install of win7 and all is great.
What ever you get make sure it has the 192 bit GPU bus and the better 1080p display and you will be happy. If you want to upgrade then put in a SSD and go.
Have fun with you new laptop. Also, I am a 6', 220 lbs and I take my G73 places all the time. doesnt seem to big or heavy for me. -
If you get the G74, you'll need to flash your BIOS to 203, and adjust your sensitivity settings on your touchpad to your likings. Other than that, it's ready to rock.
Buying an Asus G73SW next week, but a bit worried..
