So unfortunately only after a year and a half I'm already in need to replace my laptop which is only a year and a half old. I've had a rash of bad purchase decisions, first with some HP that flipped into a tablet (it ran so hot it literally burnt through itself...) and more recently with a sony vaio. Anyways, I was hoping to make a solid upgrade to the ASUS G53SX-NH71, which looks like it's got solid power to run the games I'd like and I'm hoping it doesn't run as hot as my last two laptops on the bottom.
Anyways, the point of my post (aside from any positive or negative feedback about the ASUS G53SX-NH71 (and if you guys think there's a better model for a comparable price please feel free to share) is that obviously laptops are expensive and it is a big investment but I'm looking to minimize my purchase price as best as possible. On Newegg, the model I'm looking for was running at $1,120 around Christmas time. I had hoped it would only decrease from there but now it's back up to $1,199. I tried reading up on the matter and the claim was that laptops are cheapest around April. Is there any validity to that? If I wait a few more months will I be able to get the ASUS G53SX-NH71 or a comparable machine for cheaper than what it's going for now? Or am I only delaying the inevitable?
Thanks for any input.

Hello Cardboardbox-
The G53SX-DH71 may be in dropping price soon. It's been out for a while. That might be a comparable option as well, sans the warranties and accessories. Just something to keep in mind. -
Awesome, thanks for the advice
anyone else got any good tips? This fan noise is driving me the point of insanity, I just don't want to make a purchase today if the price is gonna drop within the next month or something.

A couple of things to note. The G53SX models have a smaller 128 bit GPU bus and run slower than the G73sw/G53sw or the G74sx. They all have the 192 bit GPU bus. ALso consider what games you want to play. I play alot of SC2 so my G73sw works great, but with some of the newer games BF3, SR, CD MW3, they will only play on medium to low settings to get good FPS. If you want to future proof a little bit go with something with a 6990 or GTX 580.
as for fan noise Asus is the best as it has the vents in the back. Mine sits on my lap with nothing between and it just a little warm.
If I were to buy now I would go with a Sager/Clevo fir price. Or I would waite a couple of months to see what the G75 comes out with as it might have a 570/670 GPU in it.
Buying guide?
