    Buzzing/Humming Sound Near CD/DVD Drive

    Any ideas? It's making a buzzing noise like every 5 seconds.

    1) Do you have a disc inside the optical drive?
    2) Leave the tray open and see if the sound persits
    3) Did you change something in the OD drivers/firmware etc.?

    Oh and what's your laptop model?

    I have the G51 from Best Buy. Started happening last night, but not as frequently.

    Sound persists.

    Try removing the optical drive screws, then taking the drive out, and put it back in.... with the computer off, of course. See the G50 disassembly guide.

    Mine sounded like a mini lightsaber. I gave it a shake and it stopped. Took it apart and everything seems in place... Go figure. Something fell into the vents perhaps?
