Could be mobo restricted?. There is always a whitelist option on the JW.
Aida64 and most other programs do register all the data that the GPU is able to give. The asus 5870 did post info that it did not support software fan control but the M17 does have that as enabled.

Its not Mxm but how in the hell does it work :D you make it sound like 1 gen I7 is not like the 2 gen but if someone tries it it might not work or it might. How would a non mxm GPU be able to work in a MXM slot ? LOL so theory is that if i was able to take the G71 with a reverse so called MXM and make a adapter to turn the pins around it would work in a propper MXM slot ?

Have not compared the JW and JH board but have compared the AW 6870 to the 5870... i took some capasitors of the 5870m to get the 6870m up and running. Yes the board is bigger then the standard but most parts are present on bougth GPU. The bios is a nother matter.

OP, if your issue is random, I wouldn't call it a hardware malfunction. I experienced other issues (I think you already know them) and I thought it was nvidia drivers or even the gpu... Now Ive been booting into windows with no AV and no synaptics drivers and this has been running FLAWLESSLY for 3 days. Try that.
