Srry in advanced If I'm reposting , but i have been inactive for a LONG time and it's impossible to search through this forum, alas..

We, all know that the main advantage of the g74 is the bay where all the tech is hidden. Finally, all 4 dimms are present, but what does it mean for the GPU? I've heard its attach to the board, but not sure. Does anyone know if the 560m can be removed? Also, can i remove the 460m from my g73 and upgrade that as well?

Lol the easy-access bay in the G74 is more of a gimmick IMO.

The G74's gpu is soldered to the board and cannot be removed (realistically).

Your sig says you're a JH owner, the 5870 generally beats the 460, and can stand toe-to-toe with the 560, dont know how thats an "upgrade"; however, if you do have the JW/SW, then still no, you cannot upgrade to the ASUS 560, since its not an MXM card, MAYBE, another manufactures 560, but thats a big maybe.

Yup what CrappyAlloy says is true and if you want a Sandy just swap it for an XM which is on par with the Sandy that comes with the G74. win win!

I don't have the 5870 i have a 460m now, traded it cuz the ATI burnt up on me.

Does anyone know if a G74 will have a REAL upgrade or when the G75 (or better asus gaming laptop) is coming out!

I feel sorry for whoever bought it :(

"REAL" upgrade? heh. You'll have to wait until I get to Cali before I get that info.

G75 maybe. As for g74, everyone here has confirmed the 5870M is still roughly on par with GTX560M and you couldnt replace it!

This is the main reason why i feel bad for people who have old g73 or wanted to upgrade to 6970 but cannot because Asus say NO WAY! It is either have to buy g74 with non upgrade gpu 560m or look else where like Alienware, Sager/Clevo, MSI or even Toshiba :(   Hopefully Asus will make g75 a powerhouse or there won't be any ROG gamers around

Just found out that i could purchase alienware m17x with 6970M and i7 2630qm for less than a G74 at bestbuy! Decision decision!

I'd get the Alienware with that amazing graphics card and probably upgrade the CPU as well... I just wish Asus would release a G74 with that ATi graphics card and then I'd buy it without thinking.
