Hi all,
I have my brand new G73 but alas my model did not come with the backpack (not to worry, not a big fan of backpacks to begin with). Anyways, my laptop doesn't exactly fit in my current 17 inch bag, and I was curious if anyone could suggest a model they have that fits the laptop?
Thanks so much!

I've got one of these coming in this week:
HardBody PRO laptop case by SLAPPA - http://www.slappa.com/hardbody-laptop-case?sc=2&category=133
Yeah, it's pretty hardcore but I figure I may as well protect my investment. I've been using a Velocity SPYDER laptop backpack and must say it's protected my Gateway P-6831FX well in that padded inner pocket. (I plan to pass along the laptop as well as the bag to my brother.) I've also read the G73 does not fit. The P-6831FX just barely fits so I know it's a no-go for the G73.
I absolutely cannot stand marred surfaces, scuff marks or scratches on my laptops. You almost need to buy a sleeve to protect your laptop before you put it into a backpack. Other than the SYPDER, I've never seen a backpack with a plush inner pocket.
Lastly, it's easier & safer to lift a backpack out a case than slide it into a backpack. I'm always paranoid it'll get scratched by a zipper or something. Yes, I'm anal but my Gateway looks just about brand new too. -
Anyone else have a suggestion? -
Isn't there a whole thread with 7 pages about 7 posts down from this with that info?
-
-
Will do Mormaer...should be able to confirm if it fits with no problems this weekend.
Yes, there is a thread like this very one already but the discussion revolves solely around backpacks. No other type of bags or carrying cases specifically for the G73 are mentioned. -
Waterfield bags. They're custom made to your laptop size.

Swiss Gear Ibex bag
I use this bag in industrial settings everyday and its very sturdy and rugged
i highly recommend this over all the others listed in this thread.
It has lots of pockets for small items such as USB drives and three additional sections for books, another smaller laptop...ect.
I can carry my G72 and my PS3 slim(cords and controllers) in this bag as well as 5 games in their cases
with all that said the G73 is quite large and heavy for a shoulder bag. i hope you dont intend to travel far with it around you neck or on your shoulder -

I use the Alienware Messenger bag to lug this beast around.. its a slightly tight fit but works fine. I bought it off of Newegg.com.
-
Any other suggestions?
-
I purchased a targus clamshell platinum bag from best buy and it works fine. its very sturdy and offers a lot of protection. There is also another targus 17 inch bag thats cheaper, but offers less protection. Its also a good choice.

I'm having a hard time getting my G73 into my Targus Messenger Citygear bag due to either the butt end of the G73 or I might have the velcro support adjusted wrong.. I'll play more with it when I get home from work and report back to you....
I really like my citygear, comfortable strap, lots of inner compartments, its very comfortable... my old gateways fit very well into it. I probably need to adjust it for the G73. If it doesnt fit/adjust well, I'll be in the market myself for either a new messenger or backpack -
Hey Mormaer, I can confirm the G73 fits in the HardBody PRO laptop case very comfortably. The nylon straps are almost too short to stretch across the top of the laptop but there is just enough length left to catch the two velcro straps together. The padded compartment (that zips closed inside the case itself) for the laptop has a false bottom that is held down by velcro. I'll probably not use the velcro (tie down) straps though. But, will hide them under the padded portion the laptop will actually sit on in the inner compartment in the case itself. Your laptop is actually shielded from damage from anything else in the case since it's isolated in its' own compartment.
You can actually grab the G73 out of the case and set it down in the case with ease. It could hold an 18inch laptop with ease as well. The fitment is really nice.
I had to return the one I was sent for a replacement though. Sent if off earlier today. It was really dusty and look like it had actually been used for short time then returned to Slappa. It also had rub marks that looked more like wear marks on the leather or leather-like portion of the case. Totally unacceptable when the case costs $100.
I'll post pictures when I get a replacement. Excuse the delay but you may already have a bag by then. -
Dunno if they're fully available yet, but I have a Slappa M.A.S.K. backpack and it's seriously awesome. The laptop fits in the sleeve (though can't shut the flap) and it zips closed and there is TONS of room for stuff. Easily I could put another laptop and power supply in there on top of everything else I have in there now. With it fully loaded it distributes the weight pretty well.
I got mine a little early because my original Slappa bag developed a tear and I talked my way into the upgrade (with $$ of course). I have the KOA face and you can see pics of them on Slappa's facebook page. It's even airport security friendly!
It's the best bag I personally have ever owned, and that's including the previous Slappa bag which I thought was really good. My one and only beef with it is that the "face" is a stiff material and can't really be squashed flat so I may have trouble with it on a plane.
Ah, it's on their website now.

I bought an Alienware Orion Backpack and it fits perfectly. I tried using my previous bag which fit my 17" Dell M170, but the G73 was to long. The Orion is made by Mobile Edge which made my old Dell bag. It has held up very well. A very sturdy bag.

I know this thread is a bit old but I finally received my replacement Slappa HardBody PRO laptop case. This one looks untouched unlike the previous one I received which looked like it went through a few gate checks at the airport . Plus, the inner strap that holds down the laptop is actually a bit longer than the previous one. So, it mates with the other half quite nicely.
The G73 fits nicely inside the inner compartment inside the case itself. The inner compartment inside the case actually zips closed to isolate it from any contents inside the case itself.
I'm not a fan of backpacks because you need an inner sleeve more often than not to protect the finish of the laptop from mars, scratches, etc... Most of them do not have a plush inner lining.
Hey Mormaer, if you haven't purchased a backpack yet then I would highly recommend the Slappa case.
*The pictures look a bit low quality. Took them with my Blackberry.Attached Files:

I would advise against getting a messenger style bag for a 17" that will weigh almost 10lbs with the battery and charger.
You're going to be walking with a crooked shoulder for the rest of your life! -

Hi, does anyone here know if the g73 can fit in the astro scout backpack? here's the link: Astro Gaming | Professional Gaming Equipment | MLG Scout Backpack
-
The G73 will NOT fit in this bag. I bought one from Best Buy & my G73 won't fit & am taking it back (the bag, not the laptop) today.
Too bad, tho, cuz its a really nice bag, more pockets than you could possibly use. It just needs to be a tiny bit bigger. -
Went to a Best Buy about a week ago and grabbed three candidates, the largest bags they sell in the store. With the sales rep in tow, we went over to the G73JH display and tried all three. I wasn't comfortable seeing the G73JH having to be squeezed into two bags. The third was case style and the G73JH was the only thing that fit, forget bringing along anything else, including the power supply. One was Swiss Gear, one was a Targus and I don't remember the third one. At least with the Best Buy store I went to, they do not sell anything that will properly fit a G73JH.

I bought my Targus City Gear at frys a year or so ago... fits my G73 nicely, either side up. But there is a padded velcro spacer included for smaller laptops, had to take that out because the rear end of the G73 wouldnt fit all the way in. I can fit the lappy and tuck the power supply nicely into the netting under the flap... the lappy is snug but not to where it rubs the sides and it slides out very easily ... I'll post a pic or vid here of how it fits when I get home later today

I have been using this for a week, and it fits in the laptop, power cords and adapter perfectly.
Amazon.com: Targus Blacktop Platinum Standard Case Designed to Protect 17 Inch Laptops CPT301US (Black with Grey Accents): Electronics
2 caveats though:
a. There isnt any room for books, etc.-- maybe a few dvds at best.
b. this is a shoulder bag, so unless ur used to luggin around 10 lbs on one
shoulder over long distances, it might be a cause of future back problems. -
The Targus Blacktop Platinum looks like the Targus I tried at Best Buy, only that one must be bigger as we had to completely remove the divider to get the G73 to fit.
Now I'm uncertain which one to get. As I mentioned in a different post I'm not a big fan of backpacks, but was considering the Targus XL because it did have lots of nooks and crannies. However, I like the simplicity of opening up the zipper and seeing the laptop and the power supply conveniently next to each other.
On the other hand, the Targus CityGear Miami Messenger also looks nice and functional.
Decisions, decisions. -
I can tell you what I now carry in my City Gear: G73jh, power supply, PSP, 5 UMDs, 5 or so dvds, wireless nano mouse, G9 wired mouse, plenty of pens/sharpies/pencils, 16gb usb flash drive, simpletech 250gb HDD, one spiral and a 1.5" notebook in the netted side pocket. Its padded very well all around and comfortable to carry with this loadout! -
I like this bag cz fits easily and I dont have to slide into the bag and scratch the top.
http://www.amazon.com/Targus-Blacktop-Platinum-Standard-CPT301US -
The other thing, dat kinda bugged me, like Chadiz pointed out, I didn't want to slide a heavy laptop everytime. The open top zipper is easier (again maybe dats coz im used to it).
Btw, Kalim, yeah I think u saw the smaller version of this, the bag I got measures abt 18" horizontally, so even after i place the laptop, theres enough room for the charger on the main compartment.
Havin to carry around a gamin laptop in my office in a backpack was a bit of an overkill...so I went with this instead, and I have no regreats at all. Very sturdy, the main compartment has ample padding aswell.
Just a mention: there are 2 versions of this bag around: The one without the dome protection is around $38, while the one with it is around $65-70. -
Happy owner of G73 and the Dell XPS bag mentioned earlier. It may say "XPS" on everything, but at least it does not say DELL on anything.
-
Does the G73 fit in the Swissgear IBEX? fail question..ignore it.
-
*edit* on that note, I'm really liking the way the slappa and Orion bags are looking! So, do those have any power supply bulge in them as well? I see the slappa, orion and platinum bags all will fit the G73 nice and snug. But I would just hate buying one and then seeing the big ol G73 power supply bulging out - thats something the CityGear doesnt have a problem with. -
well the bulge isnt too noticeable...atleast it doesnt bug me too much.
Best thing would be to try it out yourself at BB or frys if they have it. Dome protection is Targus's new thingamajig...dats supposed to protect the front part of ur laptop as well as the back.
But honestly, as long as u dont go bashing the bag against a wall, i doubt if u really need it. -
After being quite unsatisfied with the tight fits of other bags, I finally took a shot and ordered the "Slappa Ballistix Aura Shoulder Bag."
I got it today, and oh yeah, its huge! My ASUS G73jh fits in the thinner partition of the main compartment perfectly; as if tailor made to its specs. Not like the others messenger styles mentioned in the thread which were very tight to "not gonna close all the way." In this messenger, there's room to spare, which may actually be a bad thing to you. I feel obligated to stuff the bag full, since the few things I need (Wacom tablet, a few books and a notebook) don't fit in the document sleeve, and subsequently tumble around freely in the largest compartment. also in that compartment is my power adapter, so I get a little concerned about valuable components in that sleeve.
Although the bag is heavy, and large, it is still quite stylish. The backpacks are also good fits and probably better on the back for longer treks, but they too look huge. With the backpacks I tested, I felt like a six-year-old on the first day of school waiting at the bus stop.
I'm happy with my purchase, and trust me, with return policies now-days, I have no "happy with what I'm stuck with" mentality like all my married friends.
Hope this helps, good luck guys!

You can buy the official ASUS/Targus G73 bag here:

I like these Waterfield Design Racer-X Laptop Bag

This is nice but not for Asus
Boa squeeze laptop backpack -
hello there guys, I have had this amazing laptop for a couple of weeks now and I am loving it, I also like the backpack it came with which I intend to use to carry my lappy to university (pretty long walks and loads of underground/train-station stairs up and down) but the only thing that worry me is the fact that the laptop fits very tightly in the backpack which when I first put it inside got a fairly bad scratch thanks to the zipper; so now I am looking for a sleeve that would protect it from getting scratched again.
I have not been able to find anything thin enough to fit in the backpack all together (unless you squeeze it quite hard for it to fit) so what I am thinking is to stitch a protector inside the backpack that would protect from scratches the laptop as you put it in or take out.
I will however buy a laptop sleeve to use while the laptop stays in the house or at night so to help prevent dust to accumulate in the lappy, I am also thinking of getting a g73 keyboard protector.
This is the only solution I can think of to protect the laptop, I don’t want the laptop to be squeeze with the sleeve.
just my thoughts -
These are nice too
Fearless Laptop Messenger Bag
BlackKnight Carrying Case -
I had the 15.4" version of Targus' CityGear Chicago and I bought it in mid 2005. I just threw it out this year, mainly because of the fact it was funky (after around 1800 wearings, and many over the summer months, it was a bit funky, even after washing it 3 times) ... but it held together very well, and there is a TON of storage!

Just asking, how the Targus Bag that comes with the laptop? Is it sufficient to carry G73JH and maybe some books?

Guys, The comments on this thread are great. For our new production we are going to make the flap (on the laptop compartment of the M.A.S.K.) a bit longer so it has plenty of room for the G73 AND we're going to make the straps in the HardBody PRO a little longer for the G73. Keep these comments coming as it helps us build better product. And just as an FYI, the Black Friday sale that is currently running does apply to these models.
Dom at SLAPPA -
Whew, glad I held off on getting one earlier, that's awesome news.
Can anyone suggest a Bag for the Asus G73
