    Hi,

    I'm doomed after one year and a half and I need a repaste (110 celsius when playing Skyrim) :(
    But my technical knowledge is too weak to do the repaste myself. I never opened a computer or a laptop. Although I watched the disassembly video alot and read the noob-guides here on the forum, I'm still a little scared to do it and I don't know anyone who can.. (Does anyone from Belgium/Holland do repaste jobs?)

    So my question is: Can a noob like me do a repaste properly without the technical knowledge or should I just RMA the damn thing?
    If you're a noob and you did a repaste (G73) what are your experiences?

    The answer is ..... Yes! Definatly! :D

    The only skill you gotta have is:
    - be able to handle a screwdriver;
    - be able to watch the repaste video while disassembling (or a guide from NBR)
    - be able to read;
    - be CAREFULL! (don't tremble while you're removing the delicate wires, and you'll be fine ;).
    - be smart enough to make little pouches (I made em outof paper) to hold the different screws. (I made 12 or so, for each step. One for the cover, one for the 10 big screws on the underside, etc...)
    - another tip: follow a towel between your screen & motherboard when you pull it over. And one tower for under your laptop while you're workin at it.

    one last thing though.... Good Luck ! :D

    ps: schockie(r) is not responsible for any damage done to your machine! :p

    Look at sticky at top of page for links on repasting. If you're a smart noob, then you can do it properly. If you kill electronics on a regular basis, then please don't.

    The first time anyone repasted a cpu they were a noob at it :) Just be careful and do your research on how to.

    Thanks alot guys!

    But I just read this from Chastity's Repaste Experience:
    So if I just bring my G73, including the right cooling-paste (IC Diamond 7) and drive to the nearest ASUS center, they fix this properly? I read posts from people who got it back and nothing had changed unfortunatley...

    G73 just has too many screws to remove, I use electric screwdriver and it saved me a lot of time.

    i haven't repasted myself too and i plan to but i think it is too early becouse i can still blow out the vents and have good temperature
    1 year and 1 month without repasting and i am idling at 56 C
    and i was gaming actively
    from what i 've read be careful with the speaker connector becouse it is fragile and some of the users broke it

    Definitely listen to mite_jan on this one. I have taken the laptop apart twice. The speaker connector is in the middle of the upper right portion of the motherboard. It is removed after you take the keyboard off. It is very tight fitting and easily broken. DO NOT try to pull it out by the wires. They will strip right out of the connector. Take a small flat blade jeweler's screwdriver and rock it back and forth first one side and then the other until you work it out of the socket. It's a white plug connected into a white socket. Don't make the mistake of prying under the socket thinking the whole thing comes off because it doesn't. The "connection" is about halfway up it's height. If you look closely you will see the separation where you rock it back and forth on each side with the screwdriver until it works loose. The rest of the connectors are easy to deal with. If you don't beat up the keyboard too badly getting it loose from the tape and you don't break the speaker wires, the rest is gravy.

    You will be fine just follow all the guides about carefully and take special care with the audio cable and keyboard, its very rewarding knowing you have fixed it and that it will only perform better!

    I have taken my apart many times and the hardest is the tape between the back keyboard and the back panel of the laptop. Be careful and dont use too much force to rip that apart.

    With practice you can do it much faster. I can now do it within 35min start to finish to clean the vents and stuff.
