Probably a dumb question. I want to know if it would be hard to change the led lights from white to blue. I'd like it to match the other lights on the laptop.
-
Yes, hard, but not impossible if you were careful. The keyboard comes off easy, so you'd just have to disassemble it. It'll have little LEDs with no plastic around it, so you'd better be handy with a soldering iron.
-
Don't forget to post pics if you ever do it
-
*laughs* Screw in a few lights and seal with duck tape I'll do. He lost me at using one of those heat iron thingy's.
Maybe the girl in me likes things to match, but I wonder why they used white. It throws off the whole look to me. -
Because then the backlighting for the keys will be that darkish blue, and harder to see.
-
I like your avatar, is that from Aion?
I can live with harder to see if it matches.
-
No, it's a custom character design for a Neverwinter Nights 2 character I play. I wanted my assimir paladin to look like one.
-
Oh that looks fantastic. Does the game actually have graphics like that? I've played the first one, I haven't tried the second one. I hear its fun though.
(I have derailed my own thread
)
-
They used white because that's what they used in all their other lappy keyboards. The g50/g51/g60/g72/g73/m60/several other ones I don't know off the top of my head all have the same keyboard, if I remember correctly.
-
Derailment for pleasure is never a sacrifice.
And yes, that's an actual clip from the game. However, to get art like that requires lots and lots of MODS! nwvault is great source for them, however, getting all the ones you want working together can take some effort. Combine with Kaedrin's PrC pack addon, and you'll have lotsa fun
-
Why not put a blue film just above the led lights??
-
You'd have one heck of a time doing that for each LED!
-
Very nice, I may have to pick it up just for that now. I've messed with mods in Dragon Age. So I have an idea. They can be a pain, but when they work, their great.
I had the G51vx up until Saturday. I actually took it back because the keyboard was missing strokes and it was annoying. I hated that keyboard too. The white just doesn't look good to me. Maybe I'm poisoned by Alienwares use of colors.
-
FYI, even if you wanted to change the LEDs, its not as simple as changing the bulbs, just wanted to put that out there. Different bulbs use different amounts of power, and you can really mess up your notebook by putting the wrong color in.
I know for cars that changing the color of your gauge cluster involves a very in depth process where you have to calculate exactly what power you want going to the bulbs.
For instance, if your gauge cluster is blue, and you just change the bulbs, you will burn out the bulbs if there is too much power. Too little power will lead to extremely dim LEDs. Again, too much power can overheat the bulb which could be bad for your notebook, or even short circuit it.
This is a very BASIC explanation as you said you were lost in reference to a soldering iron. -
I have to many laptop problems, so I wouldn't risk messing it up. But thanks for the explanation on why I shouldn't try it lol.
I just wanted pretty blue lights.
-
Which is why i suggested to just put a blue film over the led's... U don't have to do any serious modding. I know people used to open the ibook's lcd cover, slide a piece of film in to change the colour of the apple logo.
-
Yup. Colored films are probably the safest and easiest way to go.
-
Or try to color the led's with a blue Sharpie, it's easier and faster than putting film over each led.
-
Yes but what if a week later he decides he wants red led instead?
-
Good call.
-
Then use a board marker instead of a Sharpie. In that way you can still wipe the ink of with a piece of cloth.
-
So TS two ways for you to consider is either use a board marker or use a coloured film.
OR put on blue shades
-
If you try either of those we want pics.
I can see where you're coming from as I'm picky too, but it never even occurred to me until you mentioned it. -
Would that actually work? That is something I'd do lol. The film isn't a bad idea either. I'd have to order a spare keyboard inscase this Asus ever needed to go back and I need white lights again.
Aramis, come on, you know you want to do it. Matching blue lights would make this perfect.
This is how I want it to look. http://techepics.com/files/disco_crap.jpg
I found this video on youtube. In theory it might work if you can get inside the keyboard. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-I5T0Doybc -
LOL there are some things I'll try before other folks, but modification ain't usually one of them. YOU be the guinea pig and take lots of pictures.
-
heh I'm tempted to try just laying the film over it if its easy to get into the keyboard.
I guess batting my eyes and calling you my hero won't do it eh?
-
It should work, someone even wrote a guide on Instructables how to color led's with Sharpies. The result turned out pretty good too.
The writer only colors 3.5mm led's and the keyboard probable has those tiny SMD led's but it still shouldn't be that hard. Just be carefull when you take the keyboard apart.
Its your choise between colored foil or Sharpies, just post some pics of the result once your done
-
Pics or it didn't happen.
Can the G73JH led lights be changed?
