Can't find replacement battery for G51VX-X1A?

Thanks for any suggestions. This is the only laptop we've owned, so we aren't familiar with trying to locate pieces and parts.

The battery for our G51VX-X1A (not the BB model, think purchased from Newegg in late 2009) no longer holds a charge. There is no battery available on the Asus e-store for this model and we can't seem to find one anywhere else. Son currently uses this at college and it's extremely inconvenient to not have the battery working.

Sent an email to support at Asus, who told us to look in the e-store (already did! that's why the email...), and then indicated to follow some long, drawn-out "purchase order" - said nothing about if the battery is even available, cost, etc. Also directed us to a local service center as an alternative, none of which are nearby.

Has anyone had success finding batteries for this or any older Asus model anywhere else? The laptop has actually been great except for some initial minor fan problems, and son can't afford to buy another laptop right now.
