Sure ... I double click to start the program, sign into it (I have the updated Social Club, that requires immediate login to Games For Windows).
As soon as the login is complete, and it goes to launch, I get a black screen, an exclamation sound, then the above error.

looks to me like a GTAIV problem...as I see a search for "Critical runtime problem" mostly brings up people with problems associated with GTAIV
*shrugs* perhaps someone has a solution for you. I'm not that familiar with GTA

Was on stock from the Asus website, and still got the exact same thing.
So I went to the 7a and then the 8's and still no help. :S

it sounds more like a problem with the install of GTA than a problem with the laptop, are any other games causing you problems, and did you buy it on steam or GFWL or is it a copied version? why not use the ATI 10.7 drivers? they work fine on my machine.

It is a 100% fully legal copt, I bought just days after it was released.
I tried stock 10.6s and then 10.s and nolw 10.8s. I will try tomorrow evening to reinstall. (am at work now).

So last night, when I got home from work and errands, I F9ed and restored the partition ... I then installed my MSE / updates / Firefox etc etc. I then reinstalled GTAIV, ran it on "Very High" down the list, and was able to achieve an avg. of 35FPS. Turned them down to "High" and got a LOT higher FPS (will test this at work).

    Thanks to everyone for helping.
