After a hard search for the Camera model, I found it to be a Chicony Sonix260 CNF7246. I tried installing the driver (v061.005.200.270) after downloading it from the ASUS Support Site, but it gave me a Window popup with the title "Error" and message of "USB2.0 UVC VGA/1.3M/2.0M WebCam". I tried another driver, version 061.005.200.300 (also for Chicony Webcam), but the picture turned out to be inverted. I cannot find a fix for this in AMCap or anywhere else.

I've even tried to install the driver from the Drivers CD but it gave me an error saying "Install failed. USB2.0 UVC VGA/1.3M/2.0M WebCam"

What is wrong with ASUS' webcams? I had the same problem with my previous laptop which had a stupid webcam named Vimicro VC0321!

Anyone has a fix for this? There also seem to be a glitch in the drivers (webcam was working before reformat), where AMCap would give 30FPS at 640x480 and LifeFrame and Skype would give like 2FPS at the same resolution?

Anyone has a cure for my dilemma? :(

I experience the same issue in skype, whenever I'm in a conversation, the frame rate drops to like 2-4fps but when I'm not in a conversation, the frame rate looks good (via video settings)

Anyone got a solution? I had the same problem with my previous ASUS but it was solved by installing the manufacturer's drivers directly downloaded from their site. There doesn't seem to be a website from Chicony though.

I got a reply from ASUS that asked me to uninstall the driver and test some driver attached in the mail (presumably BETA drivers). However, this reply was viewed on their site, as I never got a email from them (which I should get with the exact same response). As a result, I can't seem to find a way to download the said attached drivers. I sent a email to ASUS quoting the service reference number requesting them to send the contents to my mail, but so far I haven't got a reply yet.

Doesn't work. It says "Install Failed. USB2.0 1.3M..." BTW, the webcam is 2.0 Megapixels, so I don't think the driver is suitable. I am now using the generic Windows driver, which works good but has the same problem of dropping to super low FPS when using Skype or Lifeframe or any other applications that records video (except for AMCap).

    Anyway, thanks for the help.

I have attached a copy of my said email to ASUS.

    [Problem Description]
After a hard search for the Camera model, I found it to be a Chicony Sonix260
CNF7246. I tried installing the driver (v061.005.200.270) after downloading it from the
ASUS Support Site, but it gave me a Window popup with the title "Error" and message
of "USB2.0 UVC VGA/1.3M/2.0M WebCam". I tried another driver, version
061.005.200.300 (also for Chicony Webcam), but the picture turned out to be inverted.

I've even tried to install the driver from the G60Jx Drivers CD but it gave me an error
saying "Install failed. USB2.0 UVC VGA/1.3M/2.0M WebCam"

However, in all these instances, the entry of the installation will appear in "Programs
and Features" in the controlling panel, although it did not change the status of the
webcam in the Device Manager of Unknown Device. Uninstalling it makes no
    difference.

I finally got the driver to install by manually selecting "Update Driver Software" and then
selecting the correct .inf file, but it either resulted in an error (Driver is not intended for
this platform)(version 270) or an inverted video (version 300).

I have finally resorted to using the generic Windows driver for it.

And another thing, the framerate for video capture is very low in most applications like
Skype or Lifeframe. It stays at around 6FPS in Lifeframe but when using Skype, it can
go up to 30FPS. This is only true when I am using a video preview (not making a call).
Whenever I make a call, the framerate drops to 6FPS like in Lifeframe. It is obviously
not a bandwidth problem since the webcam seems snap into some low fps mode by
refreshing suddenly and change to a low framerate, just like in Lifeframe. My room is
very well lit, so it won't be a lighting problem, since the video preview giving 30FPS
was performed within the same environment. The problem "unsnaps" when the video
    stream is ended.

Using AMCap, however, I am able to get a constant 30FPS only when I change the
Video Capture Pin to YUY2 and select 30.000 in Framerate. These settings are not
universal and so the framerate problems exist on all other applications.

Please advise on the possible solutions or workarounds, but I would just like to
highlight that I have tried reinstalling, installing and uninstalling numerous numbers of
Chicony Webcam drivers from your Support Site, but unfortunately to no avail.

It seems to be the computer is trying to adjust the color and other video quality aspects as the webcam is capturing. Any ideas how to disable this? Remove a .dll or registry line?

Edit: I managed to successfully install the 061.005.200.310 by editing the 2KSetup.INI to match my webcam's Hardware ID. However I am still getting the same problem. Selecting 20 Frames in AmCap gives 30 FPS, while selecting 30 Frames gives like 6 FPS. This should be what is causing the video problems in Skype and other applications, because they detect my high bandwidth and set the webcam to 30 Frames, which then glitches the software somehow to make it capture at only 6FPS. PLEASE HELP ME!

Stupid glitch! CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP?

Edit: I've just tried using Skype in the morning when the light coming in is more natural, and I am getting 25 FPS! This drops to 6 FPS at night when I normally use Skype to chat with my Grandpa with artificial lighting

for all those who can't install the Camera_Chicony_7246 ( ERROR )and all those who has inverted picture (they are using wrong driver)
i have tried a lot of drivers and this one solved the problem

    Camera_Chicony_7246_CNF9085 version 61.5.200.310

i have an Asus G73JH-A1 but i believe the camera is the same
    chicony 2.0
the driver i've mentioned was for some other Asus model but like i said the camera is the same so you should not have problems with it
