Hey all,
I just bought battlefield 3 and for some reason it doesn't work for me. The game window never opens. It works fine on my alienware m11x though. So anyway, I read somewhere that this might be an issue with my ATI driver. So I went and uninstalled my current driver, used driversweeper to get any remnants out and ran the update. It didn't work and I got a bluescreen somewhere in the middle. I tried again to do the same process with other version of the drivers, but they just didn't detect my 5870 and ended up installing some AMD crap. I had to system restore to some point before all this, and now everything is back to normal..I think. My computers acting a little slower..and I think GPU performance has gone down. What could the problem be? I still haven't flashed my BIOS..could that be it? Please let me know, I really want to fix my computer and get it running at 100%.

Make certain your bios and vbios are up to date. Once that's done, uninstall your current video drivers, download the new ones from AMD. Install the new drivers. If you don't BSOD, but get an error message that the driver installation failed, let us know.

I'll do that, but I forgot to add one more thing. My touchpad and the other buttons above the keyboard don't work. Reason is that my sister dropped my laptop sometime back, and when I gave in the laptop for servicing in India ( I used it there, I've just come to the US for college), they gave it back to me with everything intact...but the touchpad refused to work. This was a certified ASUS servicing center. I tried to get it fixed over the next few months but they would always just keep the laptop and never end up fixing it ...something about the touchpad cable being missing. Anyway, the reason for me telling you this is that I don't know whether the touchpad and some other stuff not working will interfere with the BIOS flash. Any answers? Can I just send it to an ASUS center and they will fix both the touchpad and flash everything for me ?

Staying on the same topic, can I update from 206 straight away to 211? If I do end up bricking the laptop, will I be able to get a replacement from ASUS? Do I need to have the BIOS to 211 to update my Vbios to the latest version ( Which is what I actually need) .

The latest vBios was developed and tested on bios 211, i can confirm it flashes ok on 213 and people flashed it successfully on 209. DO NOT flash on 206, what are you doing on that antiquated bios by the way, it had throttling issue when plugging it after using the battery, still had the fn+esc freeze and a few other issues. You should get at least 209, but i recommend 213. You shouldn't brick going from 206 to 211 or 213 for that matter.

I shall grab hold of a USB drive and try to flash right now then. Still wondering though, will my touchpad not working effect the BIOS flash?
Cannot update drivers
