I think I just may have to return this laptop.. There is no reason for this.. All I have done is open box, make back up DVDs, flash bios and Vbios, did windows update, installed ati 10.8 drivers.. There shouldn't be any reason directx is not installing.

Do a clean install of Windows if you haven't.

Download details: DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010)
These?
Are you trying to load DX9 for older games? A few more details please.
Fresh install is not necessary. Uninstall that which you don't want or need. Get rid of the AV they installed and use the Microsoft security essentials or one of the other recommended by some members that have a small footprint.

Yep same site I tried to download it from... I've turned off the security that came with the pc.. Would uninstalling make a difference? Trying to get Directx installed as it's nessassary for FFXIV. Like I said I checked to makenaire crypgraphic services is on auto... I'm lost what to check now.

Can't do a clean install of windows as I got the best buy model and don't have the $100 for a new copy of windows 7
-
Just burn a disc, backup your activation and you're good to go. -
Well that's good to know I can use my activation code... But I shouldn't have to do that just to install directX, unless my version of windows is corrupt that came pre installed on drive.

Heh, i really didn't notice much fluff, but who knows what they tucked away, though i do kind of like the intel widget that shows what speed the CPU is running... Well in any case I need to figure out what the issue with directx is first

Just wait some hours!
It could be that some Certification Revocation servers at Microsoft are down. Then you can get this error. It's usually solved by waiting a little.
Have you got a working internet connection when you try the installation?
Also check in Event Viewer your log, do you get any CAPI2 errors?
If yes, check out Event ID 4107 or Event ID 11 is logged in the Application log in Windows Vista, in Windows Server 2008, and in later versions of Windows and of Windows Server

Well there where a couple of .net updates i was missing so i got those, i think maybe that was what i was missing because it installed fine this time from what i can tell... question is what should i be looking at as far as temperature on my CPU and GPU... I ran the FF 14 Benchmark "which was 800 points higher btw!! then my G72" But after the benchmark my GPU was Min 54 C Max 81 C...going to test it out more tonight but what temps should i be staying under?
this forum is awesome thanks for all of your help. -
also is there a link to someplace that will show me some optimizations i can make?
-
As long as your GPU stays under 90C under stress, you've got a real winner. Btw, you did not need to flash vbios straight away. You actually took a risk imho. I would believe that only if you had the GSOD issue, you need to resort to flashing to the new vbios. And it is a known fact that a few windows updates have caused problems for a few G73 users already. I only stick to the critical ones.
There's an excellent guide on the Asus bloat (and useful softs) by David right here in the forums. Search for 'Asus bloatware guide' or something to that effect. good luck!
(Don't be so quick to return it, or re-install windows, sometimes the solutions are a lot easier than dropping a H-bomb)

Normally I'm cautious too but in this case I think it was good for him.

Ya from everything I have read the GSOD sounded like a not if but when situation so I figured I'd just get that out of the way... Add the fact that flashing the bios and Vbios was way easier then it reads. So far seems like I got a good one. I got an LG screen, don't seem to be missing any keystrokes, keyboard lighting works, and temps under 90c thus far... So I the end i got the rbb version for $350 cheaper then then bst7... I don't expect that much difference between the two models.

he fixed it already Nekki...

Yep thanks for the help everyone, no idea why .net didn't come to mind...*sigh*
