    Hello brothers by Notebook =]

1 (noob)question regarding my BST-7 from BB (manufactured in september) with an infamous ATI 5870. In device manager it says driver version is 8.something, dated January 2010. Now, on AMD web there is a new CATALYST 10.10 relesead 10/22/2010.

Here is my question - and pardon me if there is an answer burried somewhere in this forum to it - after reading about people having problems after updating, how do I do this properly with no issues? If someone could create a bullet-list of things that need be there(and their appropriate version) for an update to not cause any problems me, and many other noobs, would greatly appreciate it.

Many thanks!(Chastity, - I promise to not die trying when the time comes=])

I also have a BST7 and I can tell you first hand that you need to update the VBios before you update the Catalyst drivers...otherwise you'll have the infamous GSOD...I did before I updated. Now, with new VBios, I'm running the 10.10's with no issues.

holliday777, I have one of the earlier bestbuy models, and I can tell you, I did not have to update the vbios. I updated the vbios cause I was bored to be honest, never had any issues running the latest drivers from AMD...

Just stating my experience. I also previously had the earlier model G73...and had terrible issues with GSOD's on that version also. I couldn't use anything other than stock drivers without problems. The new VBios has been the difference maker for me.

Problems with 5870 are not absolutely for everyone. Some users were problem free, but several users have a problem. Updating your vBios will prevent you for having a GSOD, but not all problem-free users are immune to GSOD, as stated by ASUS. I don't have any GSOD but I updated my vBios and other things. Just saying.

I don't know what version comes stock with the G73, but it is 10.6 older. I could not run 10.8 without the new vBIOS. You may need to flash to the new vbios if you want to use 10.10. My guess is definitely

Your not stupid, im sure its a common mistake

    1. Use GPU-z to find out your vbios version
    2. It means your on the older (and stock) 9.x version...I believe the CCC version didnt start to show up until 10.x...this means you need to go to AMD's website and update

Here Ill make it easy on you
