Today I decided to try an update to Catalyst 11.7, but I keep getting an "install package failure" when it tries to update C++ 2010. I've never had this happen before, so I'm not really sure what the deal is. I've tried updating from Microsoft to no avail, as well as uninstalling/reinstalling Catalyst. Action center was telling me there was a problem with C++ but downloading the update didn't help.

The installation finishes okay, but at the end it says "Failures during installation," and I doubt that's a good thing.

Any help? This is on a G73jh, if it matters.

"Stay with the best Catalyst you have" is the best advise that i can give to you.

indeed, you already had the package, and it was not overwrited, it happens to me all the time.
Anyway if you have concerns, you may just want to do a clean install for both AMD driver and c++2010, you MUST remove both from the "unistall a program", then run driver sweeper to clean AMD drivers, then run the installer again.
