I have owned this G73JH for almost a year now, and I love it. A month or two ago I started getting the "Grey Bars" screens, and also random lockdowns. After tinkering with my drivers and the creative software I somehow fixed it. Now after I fixed it, atleast three games are not working, and don't even open completely before closing.

These games are Minecraft, HL:Blue Shift, and HL:Opposing Forces.

My main thing is Minecraft, which when I log in, it closes the window. Trying to play it in browser only gives me a black screen. It used to make a text file appear on my desktop, but now it doesn't. I made a thread on the topic on the official forums, here:
Minecraft closing after logging in? - Minecraft Forums

Please read that before you post about it, I have the text logs tha used to appear in it and some dxdiag stuff that might help.

I am quite computer illiterate, and young. I don't know too much about these things.

Read up on the sticky which says "Read here before posting". There are a bunch of threads about your grey bar issue. Which is why it's in the "read here before posting" section.

If you read my post, I said I used to have the Grey Bar Issue, I already fixed it. My current issue is that certain games are just closing back to my desktop on startup.

How did you fix the gray bar issue? What did you do between them working and not working?

I played with the Creative Audio Center, and some drivers. Now most games work without any freezes or GSOD's.

If nothing works out I think I'll bring it in to somewhere to get everything updated, like the BIOS. Maybe I'll reformat it too,

And what do you mean by what did I do before?

I don't even know how to properly install drivers, I just played with crap.

Thats probally the problem. Playing with stuff will just cause more problems unless you know what you're doing. I would try updating vbios and bios which are both in the first topic with instrutions. And if you don't uderstand something just ask.

You need to flash your vBios.

It's super duper easy man! I just did it this morning. It will rid of your problems once and for all.

I am hoping to update my vBios, but I heard if you mess up, your labtop turns into a very expensive brick. I am hoping to wait a bit before I try it.

Do I need a special USB stick or can any stick really do it?

So long as its FAT-32, you're fine. There are cases of bricking incidents on FAT32 though just so you know. Latest incident being today heh.

Always risky business, but flashing the vBIOS is generally the proper course of action to "fix" your G73. There is no software fix for the GSOD.

Like everyone else has said, updating your vBIOS is probably the best solution. It "could" be something else, but it is highly unlikely. It is best to rule out the easy fixes (like updating the vBios) before worrying about something else. I personally NEVER have GSODs and I am willing to best most people who have the updated vBios don't either. The fact that you do, even if it is only rarely means you should update.

Just remember only update the vBios from a FAT32 USB key using a dos bootup program. Instructions for this are in the stickies.

You mentioned not knowing what drivers to update. If you want to reinstall everything on your G73 there is a guide for that too. This guide will take you through the vBios, BIOS, windows 7, and driver installs.

    Its nothing you did.

My laptop wasn't even very prone to GSODs in the first place. I got maybe, one, during my heavy gaming sessions of BFBC2 for weeks prior to the release of the vBIOS fix from Asus.

Since you did experience freezes and GSODs, the vBios flash the only fix.

As for your games closing, I doubt its a G73 problem. Minecraft works fine for me.
