I just got my G74SX-XR1 and put in a second HDD. Cloned the 1st to the 2nd, switched them around and now I can't get the computer to boot Windows from the new HDD. I changed the boot order in BIOS, but it continues to boot from the original HDD. If I only enable boot from the new HDD, I get an error on startup. Any ideas?

I am not too familiar with cloning, but was the MBR cloned as well? Perhaps take the second HDD out, and insert a Win7 disc, boot from it, and run the repair tool, or more specifically CMD w/ the commands to repair the MBR.

I didn't get a Win7 disk with the system. I guess I'll have to dl an ISO of it and try that. Thanks.

Yea you can get it free/legally. A bootable disc or USB would work. No problem :)

Yup, that worked. DL'd and burned Win7 Recovery ISO to disk. Disconnected original HDD. Booted from Win7 disk. Ran recovery tool. Had to reboot a couple times. Reconnected 2nd HDD. Disabled boot from 2nd HDD in BIOS. Computer now boots from new HDD only. Formatted and removed partitions from old HDD and assigned new drive letter. Running perfect now. Thanks again.

I'm unsure if this is what the OP did.

As far as I'm aware: the OP probably just downloaded a typical Windows 7 iso, made a bootable usb, and used the repair options off the bootable drive.

I'm curious of what the OP did as well, out of pure curiosity and clarity.

Yeah, I just downloaded the Win7 Recovery ISO and made a bootable disk and ran the recovery utility from that. Wiped the old HDD and reinitialized. Voila! Empty 650GB HDD for storage and a nice 500GB HDD/SSD hybrid for the OS and other programs/games.
