So I've been getting the Grey Screen of Death on some games and I heard that the 10.1 drivers for the 5870 don't have this problem. First is that true? Second Where can I find the old drivers I don't see them on the ATI website? Thanks.

It's included in the VGA package on the ASUS website.

yeah, after the 10.7 and 10.7a secret hotfix for SC2 only drivers failed on me i switched back to the DVD drivers that my laptop came with and it's great, played Metro 2033 90 min with no GSOD whatsoever.
although when i enter my ati catalyst and go to information center i see that my catalyst version is 10.7, why?

3rd sig link, in the Software section. Bon Appetit.

And yes, the Asus 10.1 package doesn't have the timing issue, and the Gary Screen of Death.

I heard somewhere that installing the older drivers doesn't update the driver version in the catalyst control center, but it is actually using the older driver.

Yeah its just the older drivers don't seem to replace the windows registry version if you ever install a new ones, you can just load up regedit and highlight HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and use Edit Find and search for Catalyst_Version. Change it from 10.7 to 10.1, of course check the dates on drivers to make sure you installed that one otherwise you are doing nothing other then a name change.

I uninstalled the previous version and even used Drive Sweeper but when I installed 10.1 it still says 10.7 in the control center. Is this just displaying wrong? I've been trying GTA IV which gave me the most GSOD before and I haven't had one yet.

Look at the date under Catalyst Control Center Version,

If you see 2010.0122 would be 01/22/10 otherwise known as 10.1 then you are good, the drivers when you uninstall them do not remove the "Catalyst Version" its a bug, if you look at my previous post you can go into regedit with windows and change it.

Does your fix include proper support for PowerPlay like MSI?

Does your fix also include support OverDrive like MSI?

Is your fix a proper vBios that MSI has released?

Thanks for working on the vBios though.

The 10.1 work for most of us, we only get GSODs using later drivers (10.5+). If youre getting GSODs on 10.1 too something is seriously wrong with your machine and its possible that the new vBios also wont help you since its probably a hardware fault.
But to the OP; You should wait for the new vBios so you can actually use the much needed newer drivers.

The stock drivers works better, but I'm actually having the least issues with the 10.6 and 10.7a. However, even with stock, I wasn't getting an unbearable amount of GSODs so i'm sure it will be fine after vbios update... I hope.

edit - then again, hold up, I messed up. let me not cause any confusion. When I had stock drivers, I was getting more frequent freezing, not gsod. I'm not sure what this means though... but I doubt it was an issue with windows 7 as i had less freezing with 10.7a. I do have creative installed, but I'm preety sure I fixed that up to where that rarely freezes my lappy.

You cant really mix up freezing and GSODs... Its a totally different problem.
Its possible youd get freezes becouse of Creative or if you have an older bios...
