Hi. I have the BB version of G73 that has the AUO screen. I want to upgrade the screen to 1920x1080 resolution, but I have no idea how to change and I don't even want to do it because I might mess it up. Is there any place where I can bring it and ask them to change it for me. I can buy the screen by myself. I just need someone to change it for me. Also, what's the best screen I can get at the market right now? Is there any online store where I can get the same screen that comes on A-1, A-2s etc. versions. Thank you. I asked geeksquad by the way, and he says they do not do it on there place. He told me to ask geeksquad at my place which I'm gonna do some time. Geeksquad might charge me a lot for that so I'm looking for other alternatives. Thank you.

EDIT : Im from Daly City, CA. If someone have done this and close on me. Please contact me thru NBR. Thanks.

Where are you located? People are more likely to have suggestions in your area if they know where it is.

    Cheers,

I'm from San Francisco. I was looking into replacing my screen a little later also. I think I was going to go with TechCollective, lots of great reviews on yelp.

There's a really simple video for disassembly of the G73 on YouTube. If you do decide to do it yourself (believe me it will be MUCH cheaper [free]), just take your time and be patient. A magnetic strip or magnetic dish will be very helpful so that you do not lose any screws, and putting the screws on the strip, grouped by which step of the disassembly you took will also help greatly.

Screens run around $150 for the 1080p Hannstar version, but I forget the link.

oh sorry dude. I don't really want to try it. I have no idea on it and I never done that before. I found two website who sells hannstar already, one from amazon. It costs around 160-170 usd.

There are only two screws for the outer plate. You see those rubber bumpers near the bottom of the bezel?
Pull them off and store them somewhere safe. The screws are under there. Unscrew them and remove the bezel, and I think there's a few screws holding the screen into place after the bezel has been removed. Then just trace the ribbon for the screen down till you find the connector. Unplug it (not sure about how hard or easy this is), plug the new one in, pop it on and screw it in, put the bezel back on, screw it in place and put the bumpers back. (You may want to turn on the laptop first to be sure the monitor works before you finish up though.)
You may have to follow the video to take off the back plate behind the monitor, the one that covers the top of the battery bay and exhaust ports. You might also want to remove the screen from the hinges (or rather the hinges from the main body?), might make your life easier. Again, just follow the video for these steps.

I may or may not be correct. Can someone with experience on this subject comment on my accuracy? I'm just going by what's logical, I have no personal experience. :p

So I tried to open it and see if I can change it by my self. Fortunately, I managed to go in to the screen and take it out successfully. Bad thing, I did it without having the replacement screen yet. :D I thought it was hard thing to do, but it was easy. It took me like 20-30 mins. Just take all the screws and you'll be able to change it. There we're like 20 screws unscrewed. I got some pictures here :

So.. I'm getting a new screen, the 1920x1080 one. I'll try if I can do a video on changing it so everyone could see on how it is done. I just need $ and ill get one.

EDIT: I'm stuck between hannstar and LG both 1920x1080. Which one is superior?
EDIT: Bought the Hannstar I found at amazon. I'll do comparison between my AUO and that screen when I get it.
    cheers

nice, i'd definitely view the vid once you make it. i've been on the fence about doing my screen for awhile now and a vid would probably push me over to the side of actually doing it.

Received the screen today. Im busy right now so I cant do it yet. I got the LG screen, the matte one and we'll see it compare to my AUO 1600x900. I'll try to make vid too.

It would be very nice if people could provide links for purchasing a quality 1080p screen. Both brands if possible please. Which one is better? I do like my LG 1600x900 screen very much as far as image quality goes.

Actually I've been logging in every day hoping AdamSki would update us on his LG 1080p panel. I've been wondering about it ever since. Will he please end my suspense.

Ohh, never mind, it's in another thread, too bad, I wish it was here....
