And I guess the Win 7 ISO is all versions (home, pro, ultimate) based on the code entered?

So this would would with my OEM (white box system builder DVD) Windows 7 Pro key?

Total bummer that the site is down! I came around a couple days ago and read through all of your advice (thanks Chastity!) when I started having crashes while playing games. At first I was going to update drivers/bios/etc... as per your reference guide (and actually do a clean install of Windows) but then I discovered the repaste issue and got an RMA. Now I still want to do the clean install and update drivers/bios/etc... but now the site is down.

Frustration abounds! :( But I'll just keep checking back. Thanks again for all the work you've done.

My friend got his SW recently and we really needed this page, we still managed to get all the drivers he needed since I had most of them but I had to really scrounge for a few of them. Chastity should copy/paste the post on the ROG forum into the first post here to avoid this kind of stuff, damn forum has been wonky for weeks now. :x

My theory is that contractual/sponsorship agreements prevent this. Why else wouldn't it be here? My JH "what do to" thread covers JH owners, maybe someone who owns a JW & SW could write similar threads. I'd write it myself, but without the laptops themselves, I couldn't test/validate it.

In the meantime, people can always go here.... Asus Driver Download Site

From what I can tell, the official drivers on the ASUS webpage are woefully outdated. ATI drivers from early 2010 - nowhere near the current release - and while I haven't tried the official ATI drivers, I hear that the G73JH has trouble (read: fatal trouble) when one tries to install the official drivers.

At the end of the day, though, I'm really just lazy and want Chastity's awesome collection!!

Actually your post was "saved" on Google cache, its not formatted but is something until we get the ASUS ROG site back:

G73 Series Driver and Application Reference

Scroll down and you will still be able to access the links ^^ that post saved me when I was updating my G73 vBios, Bios, Keyboard fix, etc.

    Thanks again Chastity

    Have fun!

I didn't think to check other models listing of drivers... While I didn't see anything for a g74sw, I did pull the g74sx or whatever, got the higher synaptic driver, and that coupled with disabling the ati hotkey service (as per chastity's note somewhere else in this massive forum) seems to have finally quelled my trackpad issues (so far).

Gonna keep all things crossable crossed that it's not just a fluke and holds steady.

Ok, so I JUST replaced my G73JH-RBXX05 with a G73SW-BTS6 (apparently the repair people approved a replacement). I need to know if I can just load the HDD image i made of my old laptop onto the new laptop and simply uninstall/replace a few drivers, or do I have to start from scratch and reinstall everything? If I can use the old image, what drivers HAVE to be replaced for it to work properly?

You'll need to upgrade Power4Gear Hybrid, and uninstall the ATI drivers. You may have a different WiFi and webcam. I say go ahead and try the old install. If it gives you grief, then do a fresh one.

I would make a backup of the factory install first. Very important, and don't use AI Recovery crap. Use something that'll backup to a hdd or usb hdd.

Thanks for the info. I went ahead and had it restore my MBR, and my OS and Data partitions, but left the new recovery partition intact (actually backed it up beforehand just in case. Fixing to test it now, if it works I will report back so its documented as a confirmed yes or no.

EDIT: Seems there are several drivers that need to be replaced based on differences between the driver pages for the two units, but I will have to wait to find out because my unit is defective out of the box. Won't post to bios or anything.

ANOTHER EDIT: After further investigation I appear to have a single faulty stick of RAM. Laptop boots to windows fine with no issues, though it throws an error about ACPI ATK0100 kernel Mode Driver. Hopefully replacing old drivers will help.

FINAL EDIT: I can confidently confirm that this idea works. You will need to reinstall both the ATK Package and the updated Power4Gear Hybrid. Also requiring updates are the chip-set drivers and the Intel Management Engine Interface. LAN, WLAN, the card reader, and the USB 3.0 port require new drivers.

For some reason Asus has the "Power4Gear Hybrid v1.1.43 Has Super Hybrid Engine, SW Only" listed on their website for download with the G53JW. Also, the driver that came on the initial install CD had the Super Hybrid Engine as well.

Also, my G53JW has no turbo button. The button that should toggle turbo mode just changes the power profile.

Just wondering if someone could confirm which one should be installed?? The 1.1.37 that was suggested for JW, or the 1.1.43 that is listed on the Asus G53JW product website.

    You can check from:

    1) Hitting F2 at ASUS POST screen and looking at the first tab screen in the BIOS

    2) Use HWINFO64 to check video card and mother board tabs, which will show installed BIOS versions

    3) GPU-Z will show the vBIOS version.

What would you suggest to backup the factory install to an external USB HDD? I am most interested in hearing your recommendations.

I am interested in making a copy of the data on the factory recovery partition... even to the point if I could update, slipstream drivers in it... if thats possible

Chastity, i'm hoping you respond or see this because you are my only hope.

I recently purchased a ASUS G73jh and i'm very concerned about keeping it. I still have time to return it but I thought I would ask you for your wisdom/advice first.
The problem is simple. I have updated to 213 bios, and updated to your vbios. As long as im using the ASUS radeon 5870 drivers from their site, everything is fine. But as soon as I try any from the amd radeon official site, they install, and I can load games, but depending on what game, I get weird disappearing random lines/tears in all directions/flickering.

It is obviously artifacting BUT I ran vcard tests on the gpu, and NO errors come up or any tearing/artifacting at all. Its just IN games, mainly Starcraft 2 shows up the worst out of all of them.

Again, I can run the asus main site old radeon drivers and no problems whatsoever. No lockups/no freezes, nothing. I can even overclock the card to a round 800/1050 and no errors show up on the gpu burner/test.

So, with all this info, Send this unit back??? Or is this just the way the g73jh is, stuck using the asus site drivers or enjoy flickering/tears here and there.

    Thank you for your time/help.

    Jason

    JOSEA,

Hey bud appreciate the comment/post. No i've worked on this for the past 3 days and done everything from a full clean windows 7 disk reinstall, to reinstalling the disks it came with. Nothing has fixed this.

I just did what you posted, double checked the vbios with gpuz, checked the bios to make sure its 213, and did admin/clean on everything AGAIN. Installed the 11.2's and tried them in sc2, wow, and even gw2. Same thing, glitching that comes and goes and looks like lines/tears in every direction here and there in random places.

No its definatlly burned ram, and I was afraid this was the problem but what I cant/still cant figure out is why the original drivers work ok. Very strange, the new ones, any of them all install np, but there are DEFINATE random artifacts with any other driver than the stocks. I bought this refurbished so go figure. Time to send it back.

Thanks again for the help though,
    God bless
    Jason

1 more thing, I just noticed this. The ORIGINAL asus driver when it installs says in device manager.."ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870".

Now when I install ANY other drivers even if they are mobility, they ALWAYS end up saying "5800 series"...

oh well, just an observation. Really wanted to keep this comp, :( got it for 500.00 dollars on a lucky draw :(

Yes the 5800 desination seems odd, but it is the norm. If you want to change it I believe there is a thread here that explains how to (I think it involves an INF file, but obviously this is not related to your real issue). That procedure is written for 11.2, but can be use for all 11. series.
    Your VBIOS Version is:012.020.000.032.038352 right?

In some games I have to enable vSync or I get a lot of screen tearing. This happens mostly in games with fairly low requirements where the card is able to produce very high FPS. When turning quickly in games like that or jerking the mouse around to fight various enemies, my screen will tear a lot.

What you are describing sounds more severe than that, though. If the machine you purchased has a regular warranty, why don't you RMA it and get it repaired rather than get a refund? $500 for a machine with this level of performance is an amazing deal if you can get Asus to replace the video card... assuming that's the problem.
