    Problem:

I bought my Asus g53jw-A1 from amazon a while back and decided to add another memory module on my laptop since theres a free slot available. It says on the website that it comes with 6GB DDR3 1333 MHz. But when I ran HWinfo, general information showed that it has (3) ASint Technology 2gb ddr3 sdram 666.7Mhz(PC3-10600). Not 1333 Mhz. And also, the Maximum Supported Memory Clock is 666.7 MHz (5 : 1 ratio)

    Questions:
    1. Does that mean I cant install modules with clock speeds more than 666.7mhz? or Anything more would be useless?
    2. I found a shop that sells Kingston memory (KVR1333D3S8S9), will this be compatible?
    3. What other brands would you suggest if not Kingston?
    4. And if I do upgrade the ram, what are the other important things to consider to make it compatible?

    Edit:

    5. The g53jw comes with an i7-740QM, I read on the intel website that these chipsets can handle a Max Memory Size(dependent on memory type) of 8 GB. Does this mean there is a cap of 8gb? Then why does it say that the g53jw is upgradable to 16gb?
    6. And the i7-740qm CAN support DDR3-1066/1333 memory. Why does hwinfo say my g53jw can only support 666.7 mhz? (related to question 1)

Please, I need your help. I admit I'm still new to all things computers and I would appreciate any info that would be very helpful. I need to get schooled :D

First thing first, the RAM has an actual clock of 666.7MHz (more or less), but since it is double data rate, the "effective" clock is 1333MHz. That's where you got confused on the frequencies. The 740qm and hm55 chipset can handle 16GB RAM, i'm guessing that 8GB would be for only 2 SODIMM connectors, you have 4.

Kingston works fine, that's what i got in my G73. Ideally, find the exact manufacturer for your RAM and get the same brand, if not, match the frequencies and timings if possible.

EDIT: There's nothing preventing you from installing 1600MHz or faster RAM, but it will run at 1333MHz so there's no point in paying more for it and if you want to avoid unlikely problems (unlikely but they can still occur), matching RAM speeds is a good idea.

when you mean by timing you mean the 9-9-9-24? like that?
as long as they have the same 9-9-9-24 timing and both have 1333mhz frequency installation would be fine?
