And I can't figure out why this one:

    ASUS ROG G56JK-EB72 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4710HQ (2.50GHz) 12GB Memory 1TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 850M 2GB GDDR3 15.6" Windows 8.1 64-Bit - Newegg.com

    is cheaper than this one:

    ASUS ROG G550JK-DS71 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4710HQ (2.50GHz) 8GB Memory 750GB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 850M 2GB GDDR3 15.6" Windows 8.1 64-bit - Newegg.com

They seem almost identical. Is there something I'm missing? About to pull the trigger on the first one, but I want to be sure I'm not missing some reason why its marked so much cheaper.

They appear to be slightly different physically but even the dimensions are within a tenth. If I had to take a guess, the less expensive one might be the outgoing model. You might want to ask this in the ASUS forum; I'll move this thread there for you if you like.

P.S. the more expensive one is now showing out of stock. But still for a $150 difference between these two ...that's hard to justify given the less expensive model has 50% more RAM and 1/3 more hard drive space with all other specifications being equal.

    P.P.S - here's something to consider; an HP ENVY 15t w/ the GTX 850M, Intel quad-core CPU for $725 + tax:

Not sure if the deal is still going on but that's a good price.

Yes, if you could move it there that would be great

Thanks for the post. I actually had come across that before, but my main 2 reasons for not going with it are that it has no room for a second HDD (important for me since I have a perfectly good SSD and HDD that I would like to use) and I heard the screen was pretty terrible.

Yes the asus does have the advantage with that, without an optical drive you can't get an extra slot either on the HP.

It's not something that the form factor can provide sadly. Not unless you use MXM-A and they are a pain to source.

15"? Well I guess maybe i was right to concede and get a 17". I prefer 15" for portability but, I still only use it as portable desktop.

I am also looking at the same models on newegg!

I am being very careful about one specification, which i absolutely need, and that's 802.11 AC wireless. The EB72 has only N, and the DS71 has AC.
