Complete Freeze/lock up installing games G60

Hi,

Had my G60 for about 8 months now. Never had a problem. Installed and played GTA4, Dragon Age, Mass Effect 2, etc. Installations from both dvd rom and through virtual drives/d-tools/image files.

Haven't installed anything new in this time (so conflicts with new software probably isn't the problem), haven't picked up spyware/virus/etc as it hasn't been connected to the internet. However...

All games, through either installation method, completely freeze the computer. At the point between clicking install on the autorun and then the actual install process starting (initialising set-up wizard?).

Also couldn't find a resolution with a Google search. Anyone know whats going on?

Check event viewer for any warnings or failures.

It sounds like the windows installer software may have gotten corrupted somehow. You can try reinstalling the windows installer redistributable.

Do you have system restore enabled? I turned up some problems with a quick search and some of them were related to setting a restore point.

You can run a disk check with chkdsk and sfc /scannow to check the integrity of your system files.
