I need to help a friend making a clean installation on his new Asus. I did an old trick on a Sony. Can i applay that to the Asus too?

    1. Use a Windows 7 ISO DVD (same version Win 7 Pro) as the preinstalled (on the new Asus).
    2. start by removing all the partitions (also the one with the recovery material) and make 1 new partition.
    3. Install the Windows iso. Use as key the key back on the new Asus.
    4. Install all the nessecery drivers (recovered from the Asus website) from a USB.
    5. done.

    Must be possible?

Just chipping in with my experience, after installing the ATi drivers and restarting I have *always* needed to run a Windows Experience Index test before Windows will enable Aero and start behaving properly. Might be worth adding if it's the same for others and not well known.

Hey guys. I have a problem. I did this fine last time but had to do it yet again. My problem now is when i put in the asus utility driver cd, it doesn't load anything at all.

Does that mean i can't clean install my asus windows 7 laptop anymore?

I have an atheros AR9285 WLAN card and i noticed in my installed programs that there is an entry for: "Atheros WLAN and Bluetooth Client Installation Program"

Can i safely delete this or is this the actual driver required for the WLAN (and bluetooth) to work? I was hoping i could just use the windows 7 native wireless manager to connect to network and such..

alright, another question about "intel turbo boost monitor". can i uninstall that (from the name it sounds like the gadget that monitors the turbo boost state) without disabling the actual turboboost functionality?

yes, it's only a monitor. TB functionality is performed on a BIOS level.

Thank you very much for the guide, followed it using the Win 7 Iso with SP1 on my G53SW-A1, had a little different screen in the " recover windows partition " step and found a couple more bloatware compared to the list with some changes. All in all it went smooth :)

    Hi people!
I had to register after reading fine instructions in original post and give my thanks. Really great job!

I have just finished my first clean install of Win7 Ultimate 64b, and during the driver installation phase I couldn't see Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver in the list of programs.

    I have Driver 3.0 disk.

What should I do about this?

    (Asus G73JH with 2 500GB HDD's)

I think the Intel Rapid Storage techno replaces the old Intel matrix storage manager. That's the one you need to install.

AFAIK, Intel RST installation can be omitted since Windows 7 supports AHCI interface natively by means of msahci.sys automatically. Aren't i right?

I think so. Cuz I've gone a long time without installing it and i did not notice ANY difference at all. Nor has it been of an use to me.

The MS AHCI driver is fine to use, even with SSD's

Is Intel RST worth to be updated regularly? And a new version seems available here:

    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=19607

I read somewhere that recent versions bring best performance, but since i started first using computers, i've never been into this due to stability concerns as current driver version seems running fail-free.

BTW, does MSACHI haave fixed version like 1.0 which is not updatable without new service packs? (I'm not keen on updating critical drivers like storage drivers as if being greedy as long as no transfer failure is reported). And i believe newer storage drivers won't guarentee that the data which is being transferred will be delivered trouble-free/fine at higher speeds with current storage_controller_hardware, that's why speeds are fixed/tied intentionally in some other driver versions.

Is it possible to uninstall ATK Media? Or to modify the fn shortkeys? When I press the play/pause button, Windows Media Center opens. Extremely annoying as I'd like to be able to pause Spotify etc. using that button.

pamboys09 Reinstalling windows will not change the BIOS or VBIOS. These run outside of windows for lack of a better term.

Hey, I was wondering if you could answer a question for me. I was doing the recovery disk. I was going through like you had said and it was about 41% done and it reset itself. Now it has an error pop up and says that my computer restarted unexpectedly and to click ok to restart my computer and start the installation again. I do that and it keeps coming up with the same errors, do you know what I need to do?

Just purchased an Asus N53SV laptop (haven't received it yet) and was doing research on this board to learn the best way to do a clean install of Windows 7.

If there a multiple drivers (as in previous and updated versions of the same driver) listed on the ASUS website do all versions need to be installed or just the most recent ones?

Only the most recent driver or BIOS files need to be installed coogrrr94.
I would recommend creating recovery DISKS also.

    Hi guys,
I'm an owner of Asus G53JW and currently using factory image with no reinstallation yet. However i have several questions related to clean installation, anyone is greatly appreciated on answer. Here they are:

1- I'm planning to use an Win7 SP1 ISO image which was downloaded from Digitalriver (official provider) along with the product key located on the bottom of my notebook. Is it OK?

2- If i format the harddrive using Windows 7 bootable ISO, will my current recovery partition and partition structure will be altered? Or still i'll have a chance to format and reinstall my Windows 7 by HDD-to-HDD recovery in future using this factory image?

3- After re-installation, will i have to install Intel RST AHCI driver or Msahci is fine?

    Hope someone can reply, thanks!

    1) Yep, it is ok, you can use ABR Beta to backup your activation which will save you from having to call MS to activate Windows.

    2) Recovery partition will not be touched unless you format the whole drive instead of formatting only the Windows partition.

    3) MSAHCI is fine, prefer RST, been using 11.2 without any problems on my JH, 11.5 was giving me issues with HWiNFO64.
