    Hi All,

I own an Asus G50VT-x1 (best buy) notebook and I am facing a very strange issue suddenly. I have just moved in for my higher studies and the wi-fi router that these people are using in our hostel is having radio type as 802.11n (this is what is displayed when I see the wireless connection that is being broadcasted).

However, even though I am able to successfully connect to this Wi-fi network, it says "no internet access". Can anyone please be able to help me?

The wi-fi card that my laptop has is an Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN (and I believe it supports "n" type of networks as well, please correct me if I am wrong)

I have updated it to the latest wlan driver available from Asus supports / downloads website as well with - Version V12.4.1.11 Intel(R) 5100 WiFi Wireless LAN Driver for Win7 64 bit, but still it is not helping.

Other people are able to connect to the network as well as are getting internet access, so I guess there is something wrong at my end only... Please help !!

    Regards,
    Suyash

    Try different settings first :

Go to your wifi list ( manage network list or something ) and delete all previous settings.

Press Windows + R , type CMD and enter.

    Then , type :

    Ipconfig /release
    Ipconfig /renew

Then try to reconnect. Btw , try rebooting your laptop , sometimes it helps :)

I know this may sound very basic , but it could be usefull as you didn't told us you didn't try that way =)

The other thing you can try if this do not work is to go again in your wifi list , and manually change the security setting , as sometimes on public wifi it sets wrong.

I have tried rebooting several times. Didn't help.

What exactly do you mean by deleting the settings? I went to all the wireless connections which are saved and deleted them. Do you mean this only or something else?

Later on when I tried to use the command "Ipconfig /release" in the cmd window, I got this message :-

    Windows IP configuration
no operation can be performed on wireless network connection while it has its media disconnected

Then I tried to reconnect wifi and used the same command again and I got :-

    Windows IP configuration
an error occurred while releasing interface wireless network connection : an address has not yet been associated with the network adapter

I then used the command "ipconfig /renew", I got the same stuff as earlier :-

    Windows IP configuration
no operation can be performed on wireless network connection while it has its media disconnected

All this, along with rebooting of course, didn't help me :(

Btw, taking a cue from the second error message that I got, I ran the windows trouble shooter and after some steps I got a verdict from Windows 7 that - "wireless network connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration".

Is there any way to get past this issue other than what you have told me?

    Thanks,
    Suyash

No what you did here was ok.

Did you check your ip settings ? Modify card settings in network center thing , then right click on your wifi card, properties.

Then , click on Internet IP V4 thing , properties again.

Ensure that everything is set on " Automatic ".

Sometimes my computer is stupid and turns off the wireless even though it is still physically switched to on.

It took me a while to figure out because its so random, But i type "windows mobility center" into the run bar.

And just make sure that the "Wireless Network" is switched to "On" on there. If your on it will say something like "Turn wireless off" because that will be your option. If it is off it will say "Turn wireless on" which you will then click it obviously because you want it on! It may or may not be your problem. If it helps, Great. If it doesn't didn't hurt to try and look!
