So, as the title says im on the market for a gaming laptop..

What can you tell me about this laption which i cant read elsewhere?

Any good advices when it comes to configuration?

How is the noise? Do you find it low enough to use in very silent classrooms?
(Compared to fx a Macbook (So sorry, they are just so damn silent!!))

Those stickers at the keyboard, can you remove those??

    Thx guys!

If anyone could compare this with the Alienware M15X that would also be amazing..

Especially the "noize" part and just general usage..

G73 is as quiet as they come when looking at gaming laptops with this level of hardware. With the proper power settings it's pretty close to silent. It won't beat out a Macbook or a business class notebook, but those aren't gaming machines. Just don't game on your machine while in class and it shouldn't be a problem. Carrying it around to each class is more of something you should worry about, and the non-existent battery life.

Someone forgot to say the magic word......so I will (and not let Hellcry have the pleasure ....sorry mate!)

    GSOD!

and High temps while gaming - (on the bright side, you will learn a lot more about laptops, when you might be require to take the thing apart, reapply thermal paste on the CPU and the GPU because Asus did a SPLENDID job with the TIM, and subsequently, learn how to put it all together again using the BTO Tech video, which you can find using google, but like Alladin pointed out, google can have a steep learning curve....) :|

Just 1 question i s the 2 years warranty enough with this laptop or should i get extended? I dont have $$ for a extended though lol, i was hoping 2 years is fine. Also i recieved a warranty card in the box, i activated online but it said you still have to send it in the mail. Is this necessary? Do i sent using fed-ex?

registering your machine online at Asus's website just activates and attaches your 2 year warranty to your machine. The mail in card you get with the machine is for the Accidental Coverage and that does need to be snail mailed in.

Wow i dont have to say anything anymore.
Oh wait, keyboard missing keystrokes (the synaptics touchpad/keyboard conflict)! :D

But it is pretty silent to be fair. Just dont install the 211 bios if you want to keep it that way ;).

Just wait for Chastity, Ziddy and the others to see this... Theyll beat us down into the ground for spilling the beans .

10.8 won't "fix" the GSOD's. Asus is only working with ATI to make sure they don't cause them. The permanent fix is "hopefully" in the VBios that Gary says they're working on and people are already Beta testing. The other big challenge is how to deliver it since people are very good at not following directions and breaking machines. Foolproof delivery of the fix unfortunately slows it down, hopefully Gary allows a more expedited process for people in this community.

For those that havent done this sort of thing before you probably should wait for more detailed instructions or a fullproof way to flash it if it gets leaked by any chance.

Depends on whether you get a lemon on not. Thermal paste work has been shoddy. In some cases, users can Overclock, run Furkmark and many games without ever reaching the 95C mark, while in cases of other less fortunate users, running GTA IV or anything demanding often raises temps to 110c or even to 115C, when the laptop automatically shuts down to protect itself. If your temps are consistently rising above 95C, I'd say you got a unit with poor TIM job, and you would need to reapply the thermal paste.

Hi all, I'm a complete noob to computers and was thinking of geting a laptop to run Ableton and games and so on. I looked at the Macbook pro but was disapointed to find that you need to run boot camp to get beter gaming performance from it. So the G73 turned up on my radar. This laptop looks like a real contender but I am very concerned about all the problems that I may get if I pull the trigger on this one.

Comming from a console gamming background I have never had to concern myself with overclocking, furmark testing, bios, vbios, flashing, clean installing, driver updates and opening up hardware to install paste on heat sinks and so on. All of this stuff is quite daunting and it appears, after lurking on this forum for a week, that doing any of these things is rolling the dice on whether it will cause problems like GSOD/PSOD.

So my question is this. Every time a new update (for whatever) is released do you have to cross your fingers and hope it will not brick your system? As a noob this quistion is a general one and not just in regards to the G73.

Id really like to get the G73 but if it is just going introduce stress and drama into my life maybe I should hold out for something else.

I will keep watching this space, so to speak.

You could also order it from one of the fine, reputable dealers (like XoticPC) and have them take care of all the testing so you don't have to.

If ASUS finally get off their butt and update this computer to avoid GSOD no laptop will beat it, In the mean time is a can of worms. It's up to you, if you up for the head ache go for it.

Customs will take it in at shipping, and you will have to pay the fees so they will ship it on to you. Dont pay in 30 days and you wont get your laptop. Well thats at least how it works here.

Ask the customs office just how much it will cost you though. Every country has their own laws so make sure you wont be overcharged before you order it.
