    Hi all.
    I`m new to this forum.

Ok, I want to buy the new G53Sw version.

I just want to know what are the differences between the Sw and the Jw (besides the processor). Are there differences on quality?

    Thank you!

No. Same case, different processor (and motherboard).

They should all be the same build quality wise. The Best Buy version has a different hinge and the GPU is different also (although it has the same name).

For what it's worth, I'm an owner of a G53SW - see sig - and am *extremely* happy with it. I've had it for a week and have yet to run into any real issues with it. Only problem so far is that GTA4 plays a bit buggy for some reason.

The processor upgrade - i7-2630QM instead of the i7-740QM - is a decent improvement, from what I understand. At least, based on the benchmarks from notebookcheck it would seem to be. Depending on the vendor the price increase for the SW isn't that huge from my perspective, although I guess it depends on who you are and what you're really looking for in a laptop. For instance, I payed $1200 for mine at newegg, and the JW version was only like $60 cheaper. Definitely worth it, if you ask me.

Yes, the processor bump is significant, def. worth $50-$100 more. But the GPU is the same, and that's the limiting factor for gaming. Unless you're transcoding a lot of movies, you won't actually see much of a difference between the two systems EXCEPT when benchmarking.

Well, true, but my understanding was that an improved processor does help with more than just transcoding movies, and that in terms of future-proofing it's worth it to have a quad-core processor in order to get good performance on multi-threaded programs, which are becoming more prevalent.. I'm not a huge tech junkie/expert though, so I don't fully and completely understand what I'm talking about, heh. Hopefully I don't sound like a total idiot. And I haven't really found the GTX 460m to be much of a slouch - I know there are better ones on the market, and it's the fact that it's the same as the one on the JW is a very important point to make. But still, I have *zero* complaints about the gaming power of this machine, especially considering what I paid for it.

    thanks all for the comments!
    i m going for the 3d model and i have a few more q:

am i going to be able to view 3d movies or photoesvas well, besides gaming in 3d?

i meam i know about this new cyberlink dvd program that transforms any 2d video in 3d, but is this necesary? i mean, isn t there a sort of option somewhere to switch 3d on or off? (like the vaio 3d model)

    and what about 3d photos?

    thanjs again!

    oh yeah, one more thing:

hows the cooling? in gaming and with everyday activities?

cause i ve had some rough patches in this area: owned a hp hdx18, and you could basically flip the thing ang fry some eggs on it.

and now i have one of those new dv6s, which are quite ok when keeping it on intel graphics, but going for atis.....well...

oh yeah, and how s the battery? cause i ll be taking the best to uni as well, and just wondering: would i be able to squeeze a 2 h lecture of webing out of it?

They're pretty cool running. For performance levels, they're probably coolest in their class, due to the dual fans in a 15 inch case.

I don't really know anything about the 3D-model.

But in terms of cooling, it stays *incredibly* cool. If you read the owners' lounge thread, there's some more information. After an hour of intense gaming, for instance, the palm-rest is still cool to the touch, and the keyboard area has barely begun to warm up. This is by far the coolest notebook I've ever used, gaming or otherwise - it's actually quite impressive.
