This clip came out of my G75VW while blowing out dust, any one recognize what it is and for? NB Seems to run with out it? The bottom end appears to have been soldered on some where?
I have pretty much check out my NB, Hwinfo64 is not reading my GPU Fan Speed or recognizing that I have a GPU Fan? I ran Furmark just long enough to verify that my fans are indeed working. I can't find anything else that is not working.
This really looks like it was a ground or some other electrical contact. I still have 6 6 months warranty so if nothing else happen I'l probably solder it back on while I'm putting in a new Wi Fi card some time after July.

It's either brass or brass plated. Not that that helps. :(

It's a little standoff for the case to get things seated right, they are not required for normal operation but can be soldered back in if you want.

Thanks for the reply's, I've tested everything out, I can't find any problems. I'll probably solder it back in after the warranty runs out and I put in a better Wifi card.

I'm not sure it is worth the risk of the iron to be honest.

Well as long as nothing else happens I'll wait until warranty runs out. Been wanting to put in a better WiFi card and that will be a good time to look at what that clip did. Your probably right not worth taking a chance with the MB unless it actually a ground source?

I don't believe it connects two points.

Yikes, I 'll have to cut back on the Air pressure then, I really wouldn't want one of those loose in there shorting things out.

The vents should not need much pressure to clean them out, only spray through the fan and not the rest of the casing.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but shouldn't the compressed air be blown into the vents, and not into the fan?

It should be blown into the the vent the fan draws air from with a plastic tool holding the blades still.

I appreciate the attempt at helping me understand. :) But I'm still confused. Where are the vents that the fans draw air from on the G75? I want to make sure I do this correctly. Thanks.

You need to remove the bottom covers over them on the base of the unit towards the rear vent.

Thanks! So I blow air in through the fan(s) (while holding them still), which means that the air will exit out the vents on the back of the laptop. So the accumulated dust should exit through the vents on the back as well, right? Unless of course you've let the dust build up enough that it has formed a little "blanket" pressed up against the heat sink fins, correct?

    EDIT:

Here's a photo I found to illustrate (click to enlarge):

    blocked-heatsink3a.jpg

So you're saying I should blow compressed air from the fan end, in the direction of the blue arrow? Where does the "blanket" of dust then go that is pressed against the cooling fins of the heat sink? It can't possibly fit between the fins and then exit to the outside, can it? Or am I mistaken? In the last two laptops I have owned, I have blown the compressed air INTO the exhaust vent from the outside to move the blanket of dust away from the heat sink fins (as opposed to your method, which would seem to blow it further into the fins). I have no clue where the dust ended up after this procedure, but I do know that my temps were lowered afterwards anywhere from 8-15 degrees celcius, depending on how long the dust had been building up.

I guess were lucky 1shado1 I don't know what the people with G750 are going to do. I know down here we have plenty of dust. even my USB ports were full of it. I got to blow everything out every month or so.

Mine seems to suck dust into any orifice too, LOL. Yeah, the design change of the G750 doesn't seem to be a well thought out idea.

I suggest regular cleaning so a blanket can't form. On the 750 removing the top cover gives fan access which is not ideal.
