I have a decent pair of stereo headphones and would like to get better positional audio in some games. I have the ASUS G73Jh with Realtek HD onboard soundcard and Creative Sound Blaster Audigy HD software installed. I've read that the best way to emulate surround on a pair of stereo headphones for my setup is to:
    1. Select 5.1/7.1 in Windows Control Panel speaker setup
    2. Change to headphones output in Creative control panel and de-sync from Windows Control Panel
    3. Turn on CMSS-3D in Creative control panel
    4. Select 5.1/7.1 in game audio settings

However, in the Windows Control Panel, the only option for speaker setup is "Stereo" and in some games, such as MW3, selecting anything other than stereo/2 speakers in the game makes the audio either really quiet or missing in places. Coincidentally, these are also the games that have the worst positional sound and would benefit the most from some kind of virtualized surround sound. I'm guessing they have no support for hardware accelerated 3D audio because in older games that do, turning on EAX or changing to 5.1/7.1 makes a dramatic difference in positional accuracy and overall sonic quality.

So this is my current setup:

Is there anything else I need to change/tweak?
